Friend went to GC interview with expired medical - FYI

Here in Houston, cases are taking over a year from the submission date to the interview date. Because of this she turned up at the interview with a recently expired medical. Unfortunately, she was not approved on the spot and was sent home to retake and resubmit a valid medical certificate. Of course she is super worried because her credentials will expire in Jan (full time worker) and the closest date for her medical is late next week.

Irrespective of the advice given (by a lawyer, friend or on a forum), be mindful of the simple things that will trip you up.

Houston office is a real mess, we are in for a long wait, but yes, if medical is over a year old before interview, its best to get a new medical done and submit at the interview.

We have already discussed that , and will have a new one by time of interview.

Hope your approval comes very soon, the stress of this process is hard enough, much less waiting on Houston office to finalize a case.

Thanks for the reminder. My local office is Washington D.C. and I'm on my 10 month wait. I guess I'll likely to go through this process as well when it comes to my interview.

Yes I agree, and so easy to forget this detail of the medical.

Already marked my 2017 April calendar for a reminder of medical expiring.

Glad I saw this. It's a ways away but I wasn't aware of this. Wow 400 days in Houston... that's loooong... The medical will expire for most people in this process with current processing times at most offices being atleast 200 days...

i am sorry to hear about everybody here still waiting for their interview.

just a little advice if you haven't done so already... make sure the medical exam was filled out completely. otherwise you may have another delay once you have the interview.

mine wasn't and just noticed it not to long ago and have my interview on Thursday. so i went back to the surgeon today and made them fill it out again.

( Originally i filled out the first page as we suppose to and took it to the surgeon, once there i realized my phone number was wrong, so i told the secretary about it and she said it will be ok. i didn't feel comfortable about that so when i had to go back to have my tb result, i took the first page filled out by me with the right number with me, they wouldn't except it. the nurse that was working was rude and said we do all that on our computer, even tho i explaint to her that we suppose to fill out the first page, she didn't want to listen. at that time my sealed envelope was not ready to be picked up and was advised to come back in a couple of days. i went back signed the form, they made a copy for me and gave me the sealed envelope. i dont know what i was thinking, i guess i just wanted to have it done . i looked at my copy a couple of weeks ago and realized that it didn't have the page that i filled out from the beginning and neither was the first page completly filled out, like my a # , birth place , birth date , phone number, email address was not filled out, that's why i went back today and luckily there was a nice nurse working today whom didn't understand why all that happened and she apologized for somebody elses mistake )

oh forgot to say, i didn't send the I-693 ( sealed envelope ) with my AOS Packet, hence you don't have to, you can turn it in at the interview or get an rfe for it. i thought i would rather have an rfe for form I-693 instead of having to get another medical exam done and spend all that money when we can use it elsewhere. i never received an rfe for my medical exam, just a letter saying i can turn it in at the interview or if interview is waived it will be requested thru an rfe.

just saying if you think you still have to wait a little while longer for your interview, wait to have your new medical exam done until you know when you have your interview, it only takes about a week .

this is simply just advise for someone whom didn't know.
