I apologize for going back on topic this far into a thread. I know its bad form.

In respect to flag burning. Its totally disrespectful, I find it appalling that someone could partake of the great bounties of this country and be a scum bag enough to do it.

Illegal--- NO

Freedom makes America great

Larry Flynt once said-- If the constitution can protect a scum bag like me it can protect everyone. (or words to that effect )

I don't know that you spend a whole lot of time in the middle of the road, but you really do start to make sense when you get there.

I'm not bothered that he has the house. However, I would correct you and say that his house and his success has NOTHING to do with the American Dream. It's more like the Capitalist's Dream. Money makes more money.

The American Dream is that EVERY US citizen has an equal opportunity to achieve success through hard work and determination. Donald Trump is a man who was born rich, and through success and hard work has become richer. He is not an example that EVERY US citizen can achieve success. He is an example that a US citizen born into success can continue to achieve more success.

I'm blanking on a good example in the US of the true American Dream. The example that comes to mind is actually from the UK. Donald Trump's counterpart on The Apprentice Lord Alan Sugar. He was born in the East End to a tailor and lived in a council flat. He left school at 16 and starting selling things out of the back of a car. Now he's worth over a billion pounds. I'm sure there are examples like him in the US I just can't think of one at the moment. THAT is the "American Dream". Donald Trump is not the American Dream.

Oh I saw that one before. I did actually laugh at loud. I guess I should have said that I mostly act on my gut feelings and my heart and lung hearings.

What's the med-school cheer? "Auscultate, palpate, rah rah rah!"

Auscultatin is the capital of Texas, isn't it?

And if you operate on the basis of your gut feelings, is that exploratory surgery?

I wonder how many thought punishment for desecration of the flag was a good idea back in 2005?

This act would have made it illegal to desecrate the flag with the primary purpose of intimidation, inciting violence or committing an act of terrorism.

I was against that act at the time because if the primary purpose was for inciting violence or terrorism, then the charge for those crimes should suffice. Like the Patriot act, this was another bill with bipartisan support that only served to further erode civil rights. There is a difference between what this act proposed and what Trump proposed. Both are stupid ideas, however only one can possibly go forward at this point.

That seems a very subjective burden of proof. The law in 2005.

Surgeons remove the appendix all the time on the basis of their gut feelings.

A surgeon and his wife were sitting at home, quietly reading.

The wife asked, "Dear, who tore the pages out of my new book?"

The surgeon slapped his forehead and said, "Ah! The back of your book was labeled 'appendix,' and I took it out without thinking."
