Experience with Attorney Ryan Barshop (Manila)?

You said above that you are "...taking action against him" and doing due diligence, and that you have a case against him. That sounds an aweful lot like some form of legal action. :-)

Coincedentally, I just learned that a Filipina friend of ours that we're currently traveling with hired him earlier this year. She said he guided her through the process and helped her feel more confident. She was successful on the first attempt and quite satisfied with the service.

What's bringing you to Visajourney?

Over the years on this forum we have heard many "stories from the naked city" (age makes a difference here whether you understand my reference or not) or each coin is two sided, just as this story is. We sometimes have different experiences but from two different encounters or expectations. That's life.

Yah he's charging $2,000 for basic K-1 processing and he completely messed up (to the point of being outright incompetent). We have our own case against him, but I wouldn't be surprised if others in this forum have had dealings with him as well - was just curious if that was the case.

I have see and read over the year of lawyers screwing up fiancé / Spousal visas, by not knowing the process or providing bad information to the clients, this seems to be common.

Good Luck on your journey.

Yup, why is why they need to be held accountable. I also find it interesting the individual in this thread (PHCEO) saying they and somebody they know had a good experience with Ryan created their account just yesterday solely to post those statements. Seems rather dubious to me.

I agree on the dubious posting.

Over all the years I have been around this visa chase I have read a lot posts where lawyers drop the ball as they don't actually have a clue. Most times they simple complete forms with the information YOU provide to them, then send you a bill.

Sometimes it is good to have someone with experience check things. There are many little things that can come to bite a person because they didn't know ..

Visa chase and citizenship.. DONE!

Ryan emailed the link to me. It's not unreasonable that he did.

To the topic, "Experience with Attorney Ryan Barshop (Manila)?" It seems that I'm the only other person here, so far, with experience with Ryan Barshop. I met him professionally about a year ago, and know him only professionally. The limit of my experience in that time has been for myself, my partner, my two children, three of my staff, and our friend, all of whom got value from him.

I'm not here to defend him. Everything I've shared here is true. He's repeatedly gone above the call of duty for us, and he's been an excellent resource. With his training and guidance, we're developing the confidence to navigate some of these recurring processes ourselves in the future. That's part of the value for which we hired him.

This isn't to say that you didn't have a bad experience.

Personally, if I have a customer that's not satisfied, I'd just give them a refund, take it as a lesson, determine to provide better value next time and move on. Otherwise, you're stepping over dollars to pick up dimes. For me, it was a million dollar lesson learned the hard way after attempting to enforce a ~$150k contract with a customer that wasn't satisfied. I felt it heading toward a bigger problem and sent them a written release from the agreement and helped them move gracefully to another provider. Then I stopped all new term contracts because I decided if we couldn't deliver satisfaction, it is a waste of time to enforce contract terms if someone is not happy. It's just bad business and personal karma. Business is about delivering value (Peter Drucker). Owners that don't understand that are highly inclined to fail.

After that, our new sales tripled. The next client that had similar complaints was twice the size. Having learned that lesson, I immediately stopped all charges to them until we resolved the issues, which was only a few months, and three years later, they're still with us. This one client probably has a million-plus dollar lifetime value. If I'd done the same with the first, they'd probably still be with us with over a half million dollar lifetime value.

Some people will take advantage, but I find that most of our customers value our service so much now, especially as we continue to deliver new value, that they wouldn't risk losing the service or relationship.

Nobody's perfect. I suggest you guys work this out or stipulate to binding online arbitration, sort it out there in one or two meetings, and move on.

Why would Ryan EMail somebody who he just has a "professional relationship" with a link to this thread? That makes no sense.

I don't know. I didn't ask. Perhaps because he's done a lot of work for us and he know's I've been satisfied? I'd guess he trusts me to be honest and objective and I'm a nice guy? Regardless of the motive, that's what I have to offer. I suppose you could ask him. He's probably following the thread.

My first email with him was on October 6, 2015. I found him on the internet searching for help to navigate several one-time embassy processes that felt somewhat complex to me going in. It wasn't all his doing, and some of it was sheer luck, but every process we personally hired him for could not have gone better. When my Philippine company then hired him we got only one of the three visas we applied for and paid only one of the three charges.

So your positive posts about Ryan were not truly voluntary, but initiated (and possibly directed) by his sending you the link (otherwise you would not be aware of this thread). You also claim to have merely a professional relationship with him, yet he sent you a link to a public forum where another client of his posted they had “issues” and you decided you would create a new account, share a positive experience about him, claim another person you know had a positive experience, and then recommend one avoids legal action and that in the end the lawyers win, and I should try to “work things out”.

He’s basically using you to make public statements to make him look good in this thread. My guess is he’s also hoping your posts draw out specific details regarding my complaints in a public forum.

That’s not going to happen. This is not the place for that. Until you arrived and started posting, I was keeping things very generic and initially I merely asked if anyone had any experience with him (without saying anything negative at all – until I was asked about it).

While you claim you had a positive experience, my fiancée and I did not. I gave Ryan the chance to make things right. He responded by threatening me (with legal action), which included him saying he would release “intimate and quite graphic” details about my fiancée and me in court proceedings in order to try and convince me to pay him more money. That’s the type of person he really is. That is just one reason I am going after him and holding him accountable not only for misrepresentation and incompetence, but also unethical behavior.

If you have worked with as many lawyers as you claim you have, you should really know better about what’s going on here, why he sent you the link, and why he got you to post here on his behalf.

I would contact the State Bar or country bar association and file a grievance case against him for that.

Is he US or Philippines based?

Or... that is Ryan posting

While I don't want to jump to conclusions that may be incorrect, that was my first thought, which is why I've asked the moderators to look into the source IP of PHCEO's posts. If they come from Makita City, we've got a serious issue (which will result in further investigation and reporting). Either way, I think we can all agree PHCEO's representations and involvement in this thread is rather dubious and/or strange.

He operates both in the Philippines and New York. I already warned him I would file complaints with both BAR associations. As such, I've already started the drafts and should have them sent out this upcoming week.

I would have already file a complaint in New York and PHilippines. If a lawyer said something like that to me, I would be hard pressed not to show up and knock his lights out. Lawyer have such a bad reputation in USA.
