Getting from Kings Cross Station (London) to Knightsbridge for the Medical

Hey guys,

So I booked my medical today (29th December at 2:30pm) - wondering what the best way to get from Kings Cross to Knightsbridge is? Not at all familiar with the London Underground, so I was thinking my best bet might just be getting a cab?

Thanks

My hubby said it's fairly easy with the underground. There is plenty of signs and people that work there that can help you if you get lost. A taxi cost wayyy too much.

Yeah, just get the tube. It's a 20 min journey. Cabs are often slower and they're stupidly overpriced in London (trust me, I used to live in central London before I emmigrated).

Have you tried google maps ?? That's what I use when I don't know how to find my destination

I did look at Google Maps. London is notorious for congested traffic and a confusing underground system (to people who are unfamiliar) though.

It's also one of the mostly highly trafficked tourism cities, so it's designed for folks who don't live there, too.

Are you having your medical in Knightsbridge? That's unusual - I thought all US visa medicals were now done at Bentnick Mansions, behind Oxford Street. That's what they told me anyway.

Flat 15 Basil Mansions, Basil Street is the address on the confirmation email - I'm not familiar with London so I've no clue if that's near Oxford street!

I would strongly advise to call Knightsbridge and confirm the appointment's location. For US medicals as per the website the location it should be carried out is at:

NB: Please note that ALL US Immigrant Visa examinations will be carried out at our (West End) branch at 4 Bentinck Mansions (Map B). http://www.visamedicals.info/us.asp

And not the other branch of 15 Basil.

Confirm that the front desk has not screwed something up. The number for it is 020 7486 7822. That is the one you want and it's not to be confused with the Basil practice which has a different number and website as you can see. http://www.knightsbridge-doctors.com/

Hmm, I'm glad you guys spotted that! I'll give them a call tomorrow and find out what the deal is!

Just for more information on this - Knightsbridge replied to me with the following;

Morning,

Thank you for your email and for seeking clarification. The West End branch is closed over the week between Christmas and New Year, therefore you will attending the Knightsbridge practice at Basil Street.

So I guess that's the reason why they are having me attend Basil Street!

Hi, I live in London. The Tube is your best option, get the Piccadilly line (westbound) all the way to Knightsbridge and the clinic is just a short walk from the station, Knightsbridge has a few exits, the most convenient for you would be the Sloane Street one.

Keep in mind as of the past couple of weeks Transport for London has been experiencing issues on a number of lines so I would recommend leaving well before your appointment time, if you get there too early there are loads of cafes and shops to go to while you wait, and you also have Harrods :)

Thanks for this - I think I get into London like 3 hours before my appointment time (I like to be prepared!) so I'll have plenty of time haha

Good that you checked! I used to work a few doors down from Harrods so I used to take the tube to and from Knightsbridge all the time. It's likely to be very busy just after Christmas with the sales going on. I would allow lots of extra time.
