This guy is seriously delusional if he thinks that the US is really a republic. Yes, that's what it was supposed to be. However, the public does not trust politicians/elected officials to make decisions for them since there is some much conflict of interest/corruption that they are involved in. We simply don't trust them. The fact that there is an electoral college sort of defeats the purpose of the popular vote to begin with. And if the electors can ignore the people's vote and vote for the candidate that they deemed to be best "in the eyes of God" :rolleyes: , nobody would go vote. Who would waste time to register and then standing in line if your vote is totally worthless...

Whatever happened to separation of church and state. This Jesus-freak probably hears a voice tell him who to vote for. Yes, we should let him vote for us.

i'm not religious, i'm godless. however, theology has always been interesting to me. how people manage their private beliefs and public service is very interesting to me.

reading another post, i'm sort of conflicted myself..what biblical qualifications ? what is 'calling as a voter'?

Well clearly, he's coming at it from the perspective of a sort of Christian, that refuses to twist themselves into a pretzel to compromise their faith to do something, which by their faith's standards would be profane and an affront to God. An overview of his biblical qualification merits test implies that Trump would not possess the qualities that his faith describes a leader should have. To be sure, I don't know if this person would find those qualities in Hillary either, but he makes very clear that attesting that Trump has these qualities by adding his elective vote would be blasphemous.

Eieio: I never stated I was not religious. I am the daughter of a former pastor, with more years of theological training under my belt than I care to discuss. The faith I have is important to me, and it's refreshing to find someone who is unwilling to finally not compromise their own faith for the benefit of political pressure.

Courage? What did he do that was so courageous? I think he wimped out, gave up, and walked away.

It would have been courageous if he voted according to God's will/plan/etc and against the popular vote in his state. That would have taken some balls.

that's why i'm so conflicted reading this (and the post "biblical voting in the age of trump"), by his own standards or i guess what he has deduced as the biblical standard, he should have never taken the oath to begin with..

I don't believe he could no more vote for Trump than he could for Hillary. His job is to either give his elector vote to the winner (Trump), become a faithless elector (which is empty and meaningless), or show he actually has some moral principles, respect for the republic, and resign.

funny i read about that same sort of compassion coming out in full force from a certain group shortly after trump's win..who was it again..storm troopers? can't remember, oh and something about a frog too.

Do you only have ''true compassion'' for those who have different voices than your own? If you're going to complain about ''Hillary death threats'' be careful about adding your voice to that 'supposed' chorus by wishing him death based on his convictions.

Quite possibly. Kind of hard for someone who believes that strongly to maintain such standards for political office. Which is probably for the best they step aside. He could actually feel that Trump is a sort of anti-Christ, by those sort of standards (I've heard that discussion more than once btw), he wouldn't want to be counted among those giving him a thumbs up... there'd be literal hell to pay spiritually, if you get my drift. Maybe he simply thought he'd never reach that point. At any rate, it's pretty interesting.
