clearly you don't follow..idc if he gets his way and this goes federal, if cities/colleges/churches decide to provide sanctuary they will. now what the federal government chooses to do with this sort of peaceful resistance, i guess we will find out.

i don't expect to see abbott as president, he's an idiot and i don't think america is going to pull through four years of a master idiot lining his pockets. but i underestimated the idiocy of the american people once, so maybe he'll make court jester in the second season.

I'm not sure if this would ever make it to the Federal level. I just don't think it is constitutional. The federal government has the right to control naturalization, but I don't believe the constitution addresses actual immigration policy. I think this would fall to the state level, and would imagine and hope that regardless of the composition of the supreme court they would feel the same. We'd have to see.

If it does fall to the state level I'm sure other states will follow in his image. But I can also be sure that others wouldn't.

Trump has made it part of his plan of first 100 days to cut Federal Funds to Sanctuary Cities, That would hurt the city to the max. New York would loose $10.4 billion, That would be a major game changer.

Is it constitutional to punish local government for something that the federal government should have no control over? Like if New York State were to pass a law allowing it, should the federal government be able to "punish" New York (by withholding funding) purely for that reason?

My knowledge of constitutional law isn't that great so it's an honest question.
