Older US woman/ younger Algerian man

You may have the right to petition a court of jurisdiction. First, you should discuss this with her physician. Although he/she cannot discuss her medical file with you, it may be good for the doctor to know what's going on. The doc may know something about her mental state and that can be used in court, if necessary.

I'm concerned that she may get financially scammed.

Just because he says "Sure come live in Algeria" does not necessarily mean he's genuine. I know someone who's fiance was denied a K1 visa. She went to live with him in his country. It lasted 2 weeks. He stayed out all night, she found a profile on a dating site he was still regularly active on, and his "cousin" turned out to be his home country GF. She had rented a nice condo for them and now he's living in it with the rent she paid. The landlord refused to deal with her.

I do remember a couple from here with a hughe age difference from an African country. Can't remember her profile name but their relationship seemed legit. You just never know. Not much you can do. Just have to let her live her life and hope it works out for the best.

I think it's worth noting that if he only wanted to be with your mother to get into America, he probably would've cut ties with her when the denial happened, yet she lived over there, presumably with him, for nearly a few months this summer.

Unless she is bringing her life savings with her. And that might be what the daughter is worried about, her mother (and her inheritance) getting cleaned out.

IMO, there is no way that a 20-something man is in love with an 70 year old woman. These things don't happen. It's definitely a scam. Can you have her declared incompetent and get a power of attorney? Any sane judge should see this as a scam of some sorts.

Maybe the 70 year old mom looks like Goldie Hawn.

Well, if it is a scam, let the woman see for herself. Sometimes no matter how hard you try to convince people, they just have to live through the experience to believe it.

I would also be concerned about financial scamming, not just potential green card scamming. But the bottom line is that she is an adult. You could go the legal route and try to claim that she cannot make her own decisions and thus needs guardianship, but the potential ramifications of this are outstanding. If you are worried about financial scamming, I would consult with professionals. This website has many resources: https://www.stopfraud.gov/protect-yourself.html

You could even try a private detective, but they would likely be extremely expensive. Keep in mind that no matter what you uncover, you may not be able to convince your mother to change her mind. Love is a strong emotion.
