I'm thinking about being a flight attendant. It seems like it's quick moula...Like 17.5/hr to start.

Now because i'm married, im concerned about not being able to come home often..

Has anyone ever been or knows anyone that is a flight attendant?

What about my stay when i arrive at a different city, do they give me a hotel room?

My ex wife was a flight attendant during the 12th (final) year of our marriage and still is. Our marriage was doing fine until that year.

With the airline she works for you are based in a specific city, and people with less seniority get the pick of the worst bases. They are not necassarily close to your home, so you have to basically take a second apartment and live in the city by your base when you are on standby. She spend every dime of her salary on her living expenses.

I guess it depends on your marriage, whether or not you have kids (though it didn't matter to my ex), and whether or not you can be based close to your home.

thnx fuzzness.. My husband shows me in different ways that he doesn't want me to do that kind of job..I guess he doesn't like the idea of me interacting too much with different ppl everyday, if u know what i mean..

It's just that it's quick money (i think).. You're guaranteed 75hrs/mth at 17.50$/hr to start.

nizzar and i have been thinking about becoming flight attendents. i've heard that when you layover in a city, you get your hotel paid for (or, at least it's paid for if you're in a city you don't live in and the flight home gets cancelled for a few days....). i'm not totally up on all the procedures, but it sounds like a really neat job to me!

I agree with what Cornelius said. Low seniority gets issued crappy cities and you probably won't be home as often as you would like. Are you sure your husband doesn't want you interacting with different people, or he just doesn't want you gone so often?

For me it would be a simple question of what is more important, being with my spouse or money.

The flight attendants I knew were single so this was not an issue. I know I wouldn't want Karen to be a flight attendant because of the time she will be away from home. At the same time I don't want to be an airline pilot because of that reason.

just my 1.87 canadian cents.

I had a classmate who was a flight attendant for southwest. From what she told me she really enjoyed it, but you are away from your loved ones a lot. It's a good job if you want to travel, but like the others have said if you are new you don't get the best locations.

When you climb up the seniority ladder, you get the cities that you want and the kinda flights that you want but all the flight attendants I knew were single, it's really hard to be away from your loved one. I was thinking when my fiance comes over he could be a truck driver but that would require him doing long haul for at least the first year. It's pretty much just outweighing the benefits. Have you seen the flight attendant school show? That might give you a taste of the training.. lol.. Also a lot of major airliners have been cutting back pay because of rising fuel costs. soo.. that's all I can tell you for now.

well, if u go on monster.com, skywest is hiring..They have training and all happening very soon..

Fuzzness, what i meant when i said that my husband seems (he hasn't explicitly said it) to not want me to interact with people too much, i meant to say that it's bcz i'll be away from home so often, i might find loving arms elsewhere

the world, the world is mine...

Now I've got the Mile High theme song in my head!

As far as flight attending, it seems an odd job choice based on the simple fact of the distance. You guys have waited so long & fought so hard to be together...why give that up willingly now?

Nina, I don't know your situation, but I'm assuming you are the USC...do you think it's fair to have your husband leave his country to come live with you, then you start traveling & aren't home? Of course, only you know your situation, and only you and your husband can make this decision, but if I left my home to be with my boo & then he started traveling & never was home? I'd be all #######?

Good luck in whatever happens!

if your husband can not support you 100%. then the job is NOT for you.

you realize you will have to relocate after training! - this is not paid for by the airline. how does your spouse feel about you relocating? is your spouse willing to relocate immidately after training?

if you want the GLAM of the airline world. - but dont wanna be away from hubby consider other postions!!! there are airport postions, office postions. no matter if you are a flight attendant or doing another function.you still get Free flights and all them juicy perks.

Well that seems like a whole other problem right there.
