Hi! I'm a dual Egyptian American citizen and my husband is Egyptian. We got married the Egyptian way, ketb ketab and we have a legal marriage certificate. Can we use that for the CR-1 visa for the i-130 petition or do we need to go to the US embassy and get remarried as an American to Egyptian marriage? Do I translate the marriage certificate and then get it certified at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?

Also, my name in the marriage certificate includes an extra middle name which does not exist in my US passport but both documents have my photo attached. Will that be a problem?

Thank you!

I found this on the US Embassy Cairo website. But not sure if this pertains to you since you have dual citizenship.

The only legal marriage for foreigners in Egypt is a civil ceremony performed at the local marriage court, (Ministry of Justice) which is in accordance with Islamic practice. Persons wishing a religious ceremony may arrange for one separately, but it is the civil ceremony that establishes the legal marriage.

We have the sane case here

You just neee ti translate the marriage certificate you have at ministry of justice

And before the translation just give them the right English names you want inside the English contract

@mousbata so I can request that the ministry of justice translate my marriage certificate with my name written the same way as it is in my passport? And then I get it certified from the ministry of foreign affairs? Did you already go through this process? Thank you so much!
