Hello my fellow k1 filers,

I am somewhat confused regarding the packet 3 as I have read conflicting information, and I am hoping for some clarification. My understanding of the packet 3 is that I am to send via email a scanned copy to the consulate my DS-160 receipt with barcode, a color scanned copy of my biographic page of my passport and the completed checklist, signed, dated, MTL number but do not include the documents. I am then to snail mail a hard copy of the checklist again, signed, dated, checked boxes that apply to case and MTL number. Is this correct?

After this is done do I wait for packet 4 to arrive snail mail?, I have also recieved two emails from consulate within minutes of emailing the above mentioned packet 3 insturctions. The first email is thanking me for my message and advising that the review process for mail received is 8 weeks and not to contact them before the 8 week period for an update on my file.

The 2nd email I received within minutes is advising that they have completed the review regarding my visa and I am now ready to schedule an interview and provides a link to schedule an appoinment. It further advises of the fees, the medical exam, to print out the letter, what documents are needed for the interview, after the interview, at the bottom of the letter it has my case number, name, preference category and travelling applicants name and date of birth. Then it has appointment letter (packet 4).

To schedule an interview there is a link to access the site that takes me to a page where it gives you options to apply or continue, if you choose apply it has a ds-160 form to be completed......not for me as I have already completed and submitted. Click on continue, it asks you to create an account or sign in. And then there is more instructions and registering for a canadian courier service........and it goes on and on.

I find it confusing. I am wondering if this is what the first email stated was going to take 8weeks to arrive???

Sorry for the long long questions. If anyone has recently gone through this section of the process and knows exactly what I'm referring to here and can help clarify thing for me that would be GREAT, I would APPRECIATE so much...

Thank you

Carol

Hi Carol,

not sure if someone private messaged you to tackle this, but I'll help you here. Nothing is mailed in hardcopy to the consulate anymore. What happened to you is normal, and happens to most of us. They say 6-8 weeks to allow for delays on their end, but usually you get the packet 4 email (telling you their office has finished processing and its ready for you to schedule the interview) within 24 hours.

That is the website where you apply. Follow the prompts, pay the fee, select either a courier pickup location or pay $20 extra to have it sent an address. I have read that there is currently no appointments posted from Montreal, but that will probably change so keep checking regularly.

Once you schedule the interview you should go ahead and schedule the medical, with a licensed panel physician approved by the US Government, there are many resources on VisaJourney, under Montreal, where you can find the one nearest you. Go to their website and see what documents are required to bring.

Ensure you have everything on the checklist you sent to Montreal, and just enjoy that you have made it to the end of your K1 journey!

Thank you so much canadanyc, your info was very helpful. I do have another question if you don't mind me asking. I am at the part where on line you schedule an interview, for the past few days it has stated that there are no dates available and to check back in a few days. Today there is a date of Jan 4/17. I cannot attend on this date and would like a date in February if possible. Is there a time frame for scheduling the appointment for the interview and do I just keep checking for the dates to change. They only show the one day, there is no calendar to choose from. Just wondering if you might know.

Again thanks for answering me and for the knowledge and advice.

Take care

Carol

Hi Carol,

They tend to release dates for their convenience of scheduling, and considering we're all in long distance relationships most of us take the first available appointment date. The only thing to be aware of is the petition date for your K1 is valid from 4 months of your NOA2, so double check that date before waiting too long.
