my husband and i are trying to add my name on documents to prove common residence. we did joint checking and savings bank accounts, Credit Cards , Life Insurance policy, utility bills..most of them we just did over the phone.. but we haven't done this part yet - Home Contract; Property deed; mortgage -- can someone explain what to do please.. how can my husband add me to the contract, deed, or mortgage? thanks- minimee

If you want to have your name added to the deed then your husband can prepare a deed from himself, as seller, to the two of you, as buyers. Then the deed has to be recorded in the county clerk or county register's office.

I believe its called a "quit claim deed"

"Quitclaim deeds are commonly used to transfer real property between spouses or to add a spouse to the title because the spouse who previously owned the property probably already has some sort of warranty deed, so further warranties don't need to be made to new spouse."
