Thank you all for your response.

Romans 8:28 - And we know that all things work together for the good of those who love God: those who are called according to His purpose.
Hebrews 11:6 - And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

  • 2 weeks later...

My Mother-In-Law's tourist visa was approved today. No idea if it is the standard 10-year multi-entry visa and for how long of a stay. I assume the standard is six months. Anyway, they only asked one question...why do you want to go to the USA. They did not ask for any supporting documents. Quite amazed actually.

Question, do the tourist visa/passport come in a package that cannot be opened like the immigration packets. I assume not. But if it does, is it okay to open the package?

The length of stay is decided by the border officer each time she enters the US. It is usually six months but an office could only give her two weeks.

That is great news!   Age is a factor that helps with approval ;)

There is not a package with the tourist visa, just the return of the passport with the visa affixed.

Stays are determined by the CBP agent at POE, they usually ask the intent and length of stay planned, if no issues they will grant that time.

Visa chase and citizenship.. DONE!

Congrats.

It a widely assumed that approval or disapproval is done before the actual  interview.  The interview is just a formality.
