When to change last name? (Petitioner)

Oh I thought you meant you updated USCIS. We filed AOS under my maiden name. I didn’t think to just put my married name on there. So when I tried to change it at the SS office they said USCIS needed to be updated before they’d change it. At my biometrics the officer asked me about it and I told him I was just gonna change my name during removal of conditions so I wouldn’t have to pay the fee and he said yes that’s what I was going to suggest to you.

Good day everyone. I’m in a similar situation, I’m in queue for my immigrant visa appointment. All paper work was done in my maiden name. I have five months in my passport and I want to renew it with my husband last name for the interview. Do you think it will cause a problem at the interview? Thanks for the replies.

It should be ok as long as you have paperwork to prove but you never know with these things. I would just wait til you have greencard and have entered the states to do it.

Interesting, I'm also the female petitioner, can I just file AOS with my NEW last name on the forms (before updating my SSN, Driver's licence and any other documents, etc)

I called NVC last night and they told me it won’t be a problem, but I should carry both new and old passport to the interview. I also emailed my embassy and they said it shouldn’t be a problem.
