My fiance recently just got issued a K-1 Visa from Islamabad Pakistan. I was wondering how much time do we have for her to come to the U.S. before the visa expires? Is it the most common 6 months or does the Islamabad Embassy give like a 3 month period of validity before it expires? She hasn't received her Visa in the mail yet due to the weekend but I would like to know asap to plan accordingly.

Thank you.

Her Medical was done back in September and they Issued her Visa 2 days ago. Why does the validity start from medical and not the date it was issued?

I can't give specifics, but I assume it's due to a medical reasoning about the validity of vaccinations given and just in general of chance to "catch" other infectious diseases...

Thank you so much I really appreciate your replies. I honestly do hope it is from the date of the medical because if it goes from the date of issued + 6 months I know our families will kind of drag it out til last minute so I really hope it starts from the date of the medical.

It's official policy (copied from a mod's posting on a similar question recently):

The expiration can be up to 6 months. It can be shorter based on if a medical condition is present.

If the visa was just issued the expiration date is shown on the visa. Have her look on the visa in the passport. Generally 6 months from date of medical exam. But they gave my then Fiance 6 months from date of issue.

I was just wanting to know ahead of time because she hasn't received it in the mail yet but it seems to me that there is no REAL GUARANTEED answer to this. It all depends on the embassy and medical I guess. I will find out whenever she gets her visa in hand. I appreciate all the replies, it is helping me plan easier.
