This is pretty much the way I feel about it. It's not so much the message, it's the when and where of it being delivered. That situation could have very easily turned ugly. I also do not approve of mob mentality or riots of any kind in a civilized society.

I originally thought the booing was acceptable, I think booing and cheering is a customary reaction in the US. But the way you put it has me now viewing it in a different way and I agree with you that the booing could be construed as mob mentality and unacceptable as well.

If the people booing are on one side of a line, and the person they are booing at is on another I think it is more okay.

In a theatre, sitting in the middle of the Orchestra. That could feel VERY awkward and uncomfortable. Similar to booing on a plane or any other inclosed space where the person is surrounded.
