Again Obama didn't actually say anything there. The one before that is "fake news".

My point is just that now that Trump is "President-elect" he needs to act Presidential. Posting on twitter that someone "must apologize" is not Presidential. Surrogates for him can say "it would be appropriate" or something, but the imagine of Trump posting on twitter as President is just not something that I think he should want to continue.

You can say that again

Biggest Hobby is Celebrating Donald Trump winning the Election

Trump was right, there has been so much wining, we would beg him to stop

The content available on a site dedicated to bringing folks to America should not be promoting racial discord, euro-supremacy, discrimination based on religion , exclusion of groups from immigration based on where they were born, disenfranchisement of voters rights based on how they might vote.

The audience booed Pence, as they should, not the cast.

The speech was given at the end of the play.

Offensive? I think not.

Vice-president elect Pence, we welcome you and we truly thank you for joining us at Hamilton: An American Musical. We really do.

We, sir, are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights, sir.

But we truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us. All of us.

We truly thank you for sharing this show this wonderful American story told by a diverse group of men, women of different colors, creeds, and orientations.

As for the theatre being a safe space??? Bwah ha ha. Stay home and watch cable tv.

Trump, the big baby!!!!!

Thanks for transcribing it.

I see no "bullying" in the text. Like you mention, the audience was a little "mobbish" with their booing, but the cast members were push an agenda, sure, but they were doing it in as polite a way as possible. They weren't pointing and booing and intimidating.

Again maybe they "shouldn't" have done it, but they did try to be nice about it.

What make you a Snowflake is your attitude. I get a feeling you might think you are better or superior to others, we don't play that game here in Texas. I have traveled the world more than you I have a job that requires mental thought and also physical strength. I don't do plays, Rather I hunt or fish, mostly fish. I would be willing to bet you I have bigger house and have more assets than you any day.

I thought Texas was the biggest and best. Who has taken you down a notch?

I'm telling all y'all: Zootopia. Watch it, apply it...

Flash Flash! Hundred yard dash!

It's a decent film, a bit too preachy for my tastes. I'm guessing you took something from it differently than others might, but it does offer something for everyone of a differing opinion in a way.

I think a person shouldn't really let celebrities influence their political choices, but I also think everyone has an equal right to express their opinion. I'm sure it isn't the only reason you voted for him, but I wouldn't say it would "alone" make you want to vote for Trump since that would make you just as ignorant as the people who just vote for Clinton because of celebrities.

Actors, Musicians, Artists, Doctors, Comedians, Businessmen, Former politicians. Everyone can express their opinion, and use what influence they have (within reason and within the legal limits financially) to support their candidate.

Yes everyone has a right to express their opinion, but the way it was done felt more like an unfair gang up, and I think in the end it only backfired as others felt the same way. Truth be told - My plan the whole time was to vote for myself, my wife's plan was to vote for our cat, cause neither of us appreciate Trump. I've made fun of him here on these pages long before the election, and even since he won. I still don't think he is a good businessman. I think he acts like a crybaby at times.

I posted this analysis by Hussman last week in a different thread, I think it sums it up quite well:

If we’ve learned one thing from the recent election cycle, it’s that people on both sides of the political spectrum feel both unheard and even threatened by the views of the other. Discontent, on either side, is a signal that we’d better listen to each other to understand those differences. When people feel unheard, their concerns find unexpected and often undesirable ways of expression. Neither side will do much good for the country by treating the other half of the nation as idiots.

I spend much of my time working with probability distributions and extracting signals from statistical noise. From that perspective, what happened, I think, in this election, is that people didn’t vote for the candidate that fully represented their views, but rather the candidate that was the “nearest neighbor” to their views.

In a typical election cycle, the candidates might be represented by A versus B below. Given a bell-curve of political views, A is the nearest neighbor to the views of the left half of the distribution, and B is the nearest neighbor of the right half. Each candidate gets something close to half of the popular vote, but both candidates are at least tolerable to nearly everyone except those on the far tails of the distribution.

wmc161114b.png

In the recent election cycle, the candidates were not only further from the middle, but had a record of saying and doing things that were seen as jaw-droppingly offensive by one side or the other (and in some cases, both). Conceptually, those candidates represent points C and D. And that’s the problem. If each side votes for the “nearest neighbor” to their own views, it gives the impression that all of the people who voted for C or D actually alignthemselves with C and D, so each side ends up believing that the other side is insane. Likewise, other countries assume that the whole nation aligns itself with C or D.

Whatever the outcome, there’s bound to be a certain level of dissatisfaction. If C wins, most people will feel they’re to the right of that candidate to some degree, and if D wins, most people will feel they’re to the left of that candidate to some degree. Worse, there’s a vastly larger set of people on one side of the distribution who see the outcome as intolerable and even terrifying. My sense is that this is actually where the nation stands at present, and it shouldn’t be a surprise.

Some have suggested that it should be the job of Democrats to deal with the distress of Democrats, and the job of Republicans to deal with the distress of Republicans. I wholly disagree. The first act of wisdom, and the first step toward peace and reconciliation, is for each side to listen, nonjudgmentally, to the suffering - real or perceived - of the other side. The job of any true leader, indeed, the mark of any true leader, whatever their political persuasion, is to encourage that understanding.

A way forward, I think, is to suspend the inclination to reduce other human beings to labels. Labels are our way of defending our attachments and avoiding any attempt to understand and address the other side’s concerns, fear, anger, misunderstanding, or perceptions of injustice. One usually finds that it’s possible to address the concerns of others in a way that still meets one’s own interests, but it takes a certain amount of courage to open a dialogue when the other side uses labels like “extremist” and “enemy” too. Peace isn't just a random outcome that comes from hope. It's a practice, and is often the strongest and most successful strategy. My friend and teacher Thich Nhat Hanh once said “To love our enemy is impossible. The moment we understand our enemy, we feel compassion towards him or her, and he or she is no longer our enemy. When you begin to see that your enemy is suffering, that is the beginning of insight.”

Gandhi said "If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change." For me, that change includes a world that focuses less on a dualistic "us vs them" mentality, and more on a recognition of our shared humanity. Ultimately, all of us are made of that same substance. We share the same momentary blink-of-an-eye in the eternity of time, on the same tiny dot in the vastness of the universe. That’s an extraordinary thing to have in common. The sooner we approach each other with that recognition, the stronger we’ll be as a country and as a world.

I didn't begin considering voting for him until Sunday - 2 days before the elections. I approached my wife about it Monday afternoon and said "you know, I've been thinking"...before I even had time to say anything else, she said "yeah, me too". I think it was a build up of many things, but the "gang up" by the media and the celebrities and other establishment politicians was one of the last straws. I've been warning in this forum for over a year that the way the left has handled themselves by labeling everyone as racist or sexist could end up costing them, and it did. Imagine how many people did what we did in the last second and that's part of why the polls were so wrong. We both had a feeling things were going to go a different way than everyone expects, and I even started writing about it several days before the elections in my thread. Granted at the time while I thought him winning was possible, I didn't think it was quite plausible, but I did expect a race tighter than some expected with him possibly winning the popular vote. In the end, he lost that but won the electoral college. Quite frankly, we wanted to be a part of it. In VT we knew our vote won't matter because Clinton was going to take our 3 electoral votes, but decided in the end that even helping to make the popular vote tighter could end up benefitting the movement in general later on even if not Trump himself in these elections. And that if we go ahead and do it maybe by some mysterious way in which the universe works others will follow suit, and just as a big "(TOS violation) you" to her, her "basket of deplorables" fans, the media and the celebs.

It wasn't because we like the dude. It was against the left's attitude and some of the policies. It was against the current status quo. It was against the current economic policies. It was because quite frankly we were tired of the gang up. It was because we were tired of the left making everyone feel like they have to defend their decision to vote for someone, or like they owe someone an explanation or need to prove that they are not racist or sexist. We have a very diverse family including some who voted for Jill Stein. It was against liberals trying to move this country in a direction it should not go. It was against the arrogance we were seeing from some people like even some in the forum and these college kids(and again, some in the media and "celebs"), for them to end up with egg on their faces. I think alot of last minute people who voted for him didn't really expect or possibly even want him to win, it was more of a vote against everyone else. In the end I think most would have been quite indifferent to either of them - I know we would have. It's not like we jumped up and down when it was becoming clear that he was going to win.

In a way I guess you can say him winning was an accident...it was a confluence of reasons that chased liberal voters away from Clinton and swayed undecided or independent voters in favor of Trump at the last minute. I think even he knows he won by accident. At the end of the day I don't think he's going to do any more damage than she would have done. I think in some ways he might be worse and in some better so in the end it evens out. I also don't think there are as many shy Trump voters out there as there are people like us who decided last minute. I wasn't shy about it when I said I was going to vote for me, I genuinely planned to, just as I'm not shy about it when I say I did end up voting in his favor. But we do not see it as a vote for him, to me it was just a vote for my closest neighbour(per my quote above) which was the GOP ticket. One of them was going to have to win by accident(cause neither deserves it) and it just ended up being him, and the left has no one but itself to blame. But things like the Hamilton stuff and other things I've seen since then(the rioters, STILL comments in the media, STILL comments in the forum, STILL comments on social media) show that it isn't realizing that yet, nor is it realizing the true reason that Trump won(hint: it's not racism, nor sexism). If they continue like this, they are only going to alienate even more and more people than they did which is why Clinton lost to begin with.

I am in sales. I am there to sell. Provide a service. I would never berate a customer if they had a Hillary sticker on their bumper. It is stupid and selfish .They are there to perform the arts, not use their platform to attack someone they disagree with.

Safe spaces no. If they want to tweeter, protest etc fine. Much like the Pro football players being payed to play football using the venue to push their political agenda. Not what they are there for. Dissent is fine, but not when you have a paying guest there to be entertained, its selfish, boorish and un professional. LIL Steven nailed it, and he is as Liberal as they come

Exactly. Just like we don't involve politics with our business. When we had people coming in to get flowers because everyone in the office was sad we didn't get into it. I went to the dentist the other day and she asked me how I was and whatnot and when I asked her she said she was ok but seemed kind of off. I'm like that don't sound too good. She's like well I'm here at work and it's kind of gloomy outside(was a gloomy day) and this and that I don't even remember what else she said was wrong with her day but then she had to get in "and I don't like our new president elect". It's like, don't people know there is a time and place for politics and that's not one of them?

LOL....again, I didn't get into it because I do not believe it is the proper setting. It's not that I would have had a problem doing that had it been out on the street, I didn't agree with her or disagree with her I just kind of let it pass me by.
