Do you think President Obama would be booed if he attended a shooting exhibition? "Free speech!"

Being booed and being singled out and preached to by members of the cast of a play you are attending for leisure are two different things. If Obama were to attend a shooting competition for leisure and one of the people running the competition were to stop the show and read a pre-written speech to Obama about a political issue, that would also be wrong.

Do you think President Obama would be booed if he attended a shooting exhibition? "Free speech!"

I think he would be heckled during anything really. But it seems for some free speech is only wanted in one direction only.

Well he was heckled during his SOTU address.

He was screamed at by Code Pink.

Was booed by a stadiums full of fans during a 9/11 tribute/national anthem, raising of the flag. They continued shouting obscenities during the moment of silence to honor the victims murdered that day.

Was heckled routinely during public appearances.

Of course there was that one reporter that was obnoxious during a speech.

Bush had to duck shoes and was heckled during speeches.

Reagan was rudely interrupted during a speech, so much so, he angrily told a member of his own party to 'shut up'.

It's a wonder of course, that collectively some have to reveal such a thin skin to a member of a play, his work finished and with approval from his bosses, exercised his right to free speech, and politely asked for the VP-elect's ear, that people have concerns and wish to be fairly represented. Stranger still, we continue to argue about it, when Pence himself said it did not offend him whatsoever. Why should elected officials have some sort of special bubble around them, as if we mere peasants must mind our tongue around them? Such delicate flowers. Pence seemed cool with it, and afterall he pretty much endured women calling/twittering/blogging their time-of-the-month to him for a year. Think he can handle it, without people being offended for him.

Does it seem rude from a decorum standpoint? Perhaps. But free speech isn't supposed to be bound by decorum in a public setting. It's not held to a standard TOS, if you will. Your free speech doesn't end because of some PC rules, or what someone else thinks is appropriate to their standards (except when it comes to words/actions/hatescrimes).

I personally am not questioning whether or not the actor had a right to do it, I believe he did. My objection is that it wasn't the right place and time to do it and I find it classless to ambush someone like that. Everyone deserves to have their leisure time, elected official or otherwise.

We have a spoiled twelve year old with his finger on the nuclear trigger. Unbelievable.

Only for a few more months.

That's the thing though... when is a more appropriate place and time? I'm not saying you guys (but others), especially Trump would seem to feel that no time is an appropriate time.. and that's worrying.

The history books will applaud the booers. This is the next generation's civil rights movement. Women's suffrage and a whole host of issues had their Mike Pence and naysayers in the "Hot Topics forum" of their day. Thanks for being a part of history, folks.

Would you feel differently about the speech if it was directed at the VP when he was not in the room?

The content available on a site dedicated to bringing folks to America should not be promoting racial discord, euro-supremacy, discrimination based on religion , exclusion of groups from immigration based on where they were born, disenfranchisement of voters rights based on how they might vote.

If I were a paying customer and in that audience I would be angry and disappointed that I was subjected to a political lecture. That simply isn't the proper venue for political speeches. VP or no VP, it was wrong imo.

Pence is collateral damage in a war of words that will not end anytime soon. It is encouraging that the VP took the time to hear a dissenting voice and it adds to my respect for him. As far a leisure time, he stepped into a public venue and he is always on the clock when he is in the public eye.

Hamilton the musical is a political dialogue. Why is it not the right venue for a capstone speech to the audience?

Its not like it was a lecture on top of the Lion King.

You mean the same way Obama is when he's on the links?
