Specific to Nigerian Consulate - CR-1 NVC packet mailed?

Hello... this is my very first time posting! So, if I'm posting in the wrong spot, I apologize. I am preparing to send the I-130 packet for visa processing and was reading the section in the guides that says "What to do after you send I-130". While I was reading, I came upon this quote...

"A few weeks after you have received your last Notice of Action indicating the approval and forwarding of your I-130 application to the NVC, the NVC will send your relative a packet of forms that you and your relative must fill out before your relative can be given an interview date with a consulate abroad."

I am a bit concerned about my husband receiving ANYTHING in Nigeria as they have no real mail system! So... is there any fix for this, and if so, do I need to do anything to ensure that I receive this information as opposed to it going to his address in Nigeria, where they post things on a nearby fence post and hope that it gets to its owner??

This site is amazing!!! I'm just trying to ensure that I do what's best for this process. Thank you in advance!

You can create a USCIS account for status update once you get

the 1st NOA which will have you receipt number. Requesting to be

notified by email & text...Create an account in his name because at

a later point they will not give petitioners phone info just the

beneficiaries (hubby) You will be informed of things too

Okay... thank you both... I will sign up for him on USCIS. FloweLA... they emailed it to your fiance just because you put his email in the request? Is that different for a CR-1 because I notice you said "fiance" and I know the process for spouse versus fiance is a bit different. I just want to have clarity before sending out his information due to the fact that he may be moving to another apartment because his current landlord is considering demolishing the building to sell the land. If he moves and they have his old address, he won't get their paperwork.

Thanks!

Nothing regarding USCIS addresses your question. No Nigerian Consulate will have anything to do with your case. It will be the United States Consular Immigrant Visa unit at the US Embassy in Lagos, that will deal with the visa. There are no Nigerian Consulates is Nigeria, just as there are no US Consulates or Embassies in the US.

The I-130 is a "petition for alien relative" not a visa application. USCIS does NOT issue visas. The Dept. of State receives and processes the visa application your spouse is able to submit BECAUSE your I-130 petition has been approved.

Please study the CR1 visa "GUIDE" on this message board, to understand the visa process. Your case will not go directly from USCIS to Lagos. It will go to Dept. of State's National Visa Center (NVC) where you will have a second round of paperwork to deal with before the case is sent to Lagos.

My apologies pushbrk... as I said, I am new to the site. I have read tons of information on it, but obviously, wasn't giving the correct names of the consulates... I appreciate your explanation. I understand that piece of the process better now. I am mainly talking about the portion of the process where it states

"A few weeks after you have received your last Notice of Action indicating the approval and forwarding of your I-130 application to the NVC, the NVC will send your relative a packet of forms that you and your relative must fill out before your relative can be given an interview date with a consulate abroad."

This packet, I am hoping, will be sent to me and not my husband, or at least, both of us. I thought I was pretty clear in explaining why. Anyway... if anyone could speak to that particular issue that would be great. The only reason I posted it is because another VJ member recommended I do that because she couldn't answer my question.

Thanks.

The packet will be sent by email to you (the petitioner), if you provided an email address, but it will refer to forms, not include them.

I am an American, and I have an account set up, and I get notified. It is against their terms and conditions to set up a duplicate account in his name with an email address we can both access, or any email for that matter? I do not really understand what your saying. Do you mind explaining more what you mean. This all seems soooo complicated because my fiancé contact information is all doomed. He never has electricity :) Thanks!

Hi Ziggy... I'm not sure who your questions are for.. me or other people that posted. I am very familiar with electricity issues in Nigeria! LOL. However, I am just starting this process, so I don't know anything except what I've learned on this site so far. Anyway, good luck to you and your fiance!
