Hi I recently become US citizen. I also got my US passport.

My question is :

I have collected documents since beginning of my journey more than 3 years ago.

Now that i have reached the finish line. Should i destroy these ? would i ever need any of these USCIS notices and letters ?

Regards

Ash

i had to do 3 applications and have kept originals of all

this is the way i was taught and yes, you can print out from USB or CD but if they ever ask for originals from the foreign country, how long does it take to get them and can a relative get the original or would you have to apply for something in person?

i still have IRS tax returns from when i worked my way thru college (for example)

I plan on keeping everything so we can share with our daughter(and any other kids we may have) when she gets older to see what mommy and daddy went through to make sure that we would all be together in my home country

I love my husband ?‍?‍?

I'd keep a digital copy and the original hard copies. You just never know when something might come up where you may need something. I'm sure USCIS has a retention policy on the documents they hold. I've had my documents since early 2005 and plan to scan everything and keep it all as record when I'm finished.

I've kept everything since the beginning, and I plan to do so in the future. It's most likely once I become a US citizen I won't ever need it for anything. It's really up to you. Better safe than sorry?

Say you end in Divorce, then down the road you decide to do this process again. Trust me you will want those documents. Besides it was a lot of work to get to where you are now why not just keep them for memories sake.

I'd keep em. Ya never know.

One of those things.. might not see a need over the years, but that one time you need a document, it's a satisfying feeling to know it's there.
