I have my wife's AOS I-485 pending waiting for the interview to be scheduled. We are adjusting from a K1 fiance visa. We are just awaiting on a interview date. Of course this process is such overwhelming with no updates or timeline tracking, we dont know when the interview will take place. I am having various job offers from overseas which are hard to turn down as the industry I am in, has no future in the USA unfortunately. So me and my wife are highly considering to move abroad and after few yrs when my contract ends, I can reapply for her case via IR/CR visa which should grant her residential status whenever we come back. My question is with a pending I-485 FOR AOS, does my wife leave with me right away for my overseas stint with a pending I-485 or we have to notify someone before we leave to change our application type to IR/CR.

2ndly, if i do decide to continue with this I-485 process via her K1 fiance visa. And if i change jobs here in the USA, and as per our initial application it has the information from my previous employer, am i required to notify them about my job change or take anything specific to the AOS interview whenever it happens. Honestly, i wish there was at least some better info on where the case actually is rather than just posting on the website, CASE IS READY TO BE SCHEDULED FOR INTERVIEW for months. And the toll free numbers or infopass is waste of time and useless in my opinion.

If you abandon AOS, you can just abandon it, but it would be "tidier" and may make a future visa go a bit smoother if you send a letter to your local USCIS office, stating that you are abandoning and why (ie making it clear it isn't because the marriage failed). You would just inform them of abandoning the AOS, you would not "change our application type to IR/CR." as you cannot change it; you would simply apply once you are ready for the IR-1 spousal visa.

If you change jobs, or get a promotion etc, during the AOS process, you can bring an updated I-864 to the interview.

Officially cancel i485 with USCIS if accepting an overseas job. It'll be cleaner than her leaving right away with an abandoned AOS.

Don't forget to apply wife's IR-1 about a year before permanently moving back to the US.
