I think JayJay and Yuna make valid points, but Yuna leans where I lean. Trump supporters deny it, but their gloating over-reaction to the election win makes the truly despicable campaign Trump ran a valid reason for concern over how Trump will act as President.

Trump scapegoated, besmirched, belittled and truly reached out to the dark ugliness that still remains in certain segments of US society. I am not at all convinced that he can put the ugliness back in a bottle.

There is a reason White Nationalists and flat out American Neo-Nazis are really excited and happy right now. That is not the same as saying all Trump supporters are either of those two groups, but it's not a fact deserving of simply brushing aside because false accusations from the ultra-Left are made too often.

There is a saying, in various ways and said by various people over the course of our history. There is the capability of darkness in all of us. And it is an easy thing to follow, strangely enough. To tap into anger and hate, to stoke movements based on rage, jealousy, or various perceptions is all a part of making that darkness more mass produced and easier to accept and all the more easier for an individual or individuals to harness into something else.

I see the fear growing on both sides, right and left. If Bannon wants to use fear to exploit people, then being fearful is what he wants us to be. I think in order to take away any clout from someone like Bannon is not to take his rambling writing that seriously and not to be mindlessly fearful. That's what he wants it seems: for people to think he's so great and important like all the historical figures he likes to namedrop and to live in a constant state of paranoia and agitation.

I agree that he shouldn't be in a position of political power. He's been given the role of an advisor, which is worrisome, but thankfully he'll have to bicker and argue with his fellow ideologues in Trump's advisory circle. With so many egos in that room, they might end up stifling each other/ending up in bitter arguments, much like the dear old Communist party did. I'm prone to nervousness, skepticism and fear myself, but I'm trying not to let it get the better of me. In the immortal words of FDR: "We have nothing to fear by fear itself."

That's pretty much the playbook of the DNC. Divide and fear monger.

I am going to start using MDLS arugments.

It's Racist I win You not capable of understanding. That is the heart of every argument the Muddy Ditch Left to Snowflakes make.

MDLS

You gotta stop associating Snowflakes with the "Muddy Ditch Left". Trump is the ultimate Snowflake and I think you would agree he is no where in that ditch.

I agree. Trump did tap into something truly ugly in the campaign - Specifically, he offered simplistic solutions to very complex problems. But this is where I hold the 'mainstream media' responsible for failure to mediate or offer anything remotely close to reasonable coverage. For example, as an immigrant myself, I found Trump's dismissal of "Mexican judge" Curiel to be frightening. I'd be incredibly offended, if one day, my American-raised children were referred to as "Norwegian [fill in profession]."

The prospect that a federal judge, or a U.S. citizen of any background should be judged by their parents' national origin is against any principle this country was founded on. No one ever argued that Antonin Scalia or Rudy Giuliani somehow sympathize(d) more with Italy than the U.S., and if we want people who come here to become American, then scrapping any notion that your parents' place of birth makes you somehow 'less American' is quite possibly the most important value we can stand for as a nation. This is (among other reasons) part of what has lead the U.S. to be a successful nation of immigrants.

That being said, not a single 'serious' media outlet raised the obvious conflict of interest in the case; that judge Curiel was affiliated with La Raza. In other words, the fact that his parents were originally from Mexico matters little to anyone's ability to perform a job. Your political affiliations do, particularly if you're trusted to be an impartial federal judge. It would have been a little bit like a pro-Palestinian group meeting in court over alleged monetary support for Hamas.. And then having an AIPAC-affiliated judge preside over the case. I think we can all see that there is a conflict of interest there, that anyone with a sliver of faith in the judiciary should take seriously.

I read the Atlantic, NY Times, watched CNN and listened to NPR etc. almost exclusively prior to this election cycle. But I have to admit, it was difficult to get any sort of accurate coverage this year if I didn't include Fox News and the National Review. Most media became obsessed with gotcha-journalism in hopes of finally convincing the Trump crowd of how horrible he was. Objectivity and impartiality was thrown out the window under the mantra that you couldn't be impartial this year.

And we wonder why fake news gained such a foothold?

I think JayJay and Yuna make valid points, but Yuna leans where I lean. Trump supporters deny it, but their gloating over-reaction to the election win makes the truly despicable campaign Trump ran a valid reason for concern over how Trump will act as President.
