Hey guys! :)

My name is Lena and I had a quick question.

Me and my wife are about to file for AOS.

Now, in the I-130 instructions, they say that they want something like a joint bank account as proof that our marriage is real.

Is this necessary for filing or can I also just bring it to the interview?

Cause right now we only have pictures together and the affidavit of her Best Friend.

I believe you can just bring it to the interview if it becomes available by then. We filed without joint bank accounts (we did submit plenty of other evidences though, e.g. joint leases, joint tax transcripts, car insurance, cell phone call history, tons of photos, flight bookings for trips taken together...), and we are scheduled for interview in less than 3 weeks from now without any RFEs. So I don't think no joint bank account is a deal breaker if you can generate enough evidence by the time of the interview. So I'd go ahead and open one with your wife ASAP and bring the bank account info/statements to your interview :)

Thank you very much!!!!

I called my wife as I panicked because of that and she said tomorrow we will go to her bank (wells fargo) and try to put me in her Bank account. Would that be evidence as well?

Right now this is what we have:

-copy of marriage certificate

- today we're gonna have the affidavit of her best friend and eventually from her mom because we are living at her parents house right now until we finished painting the other house

-pictures of us and together with my family in Germany

-pictures of her that I took while we were on skype

-Screenshots of our phone calls on Viber

- flight tickets and boarding passes from our visits

- eventually Screenshots of our call log from skype

And thats all I can think of right now.

Would that be enough evidence for the filing? For the interview we could definitely show more than that. Such as a House under both of our names and definitely the Bank account.

Right now im just sooo worried that they are going to deny my application because we have nothing in Joint together right now :(

I think you should be fine. We also dont have joint bank account, car insurance, mortgage, as we have never lived together yet. We just sent marriage certificate, few affidavits of support from family and friends, bus tickets. photos of us togheter from different places, wedding pictures, pictures with families. chats from whats up between us and my husband familes.. Proves that our wedding was real- wedding recepits with our names on it. I think we would get approved even though we just sent few pics togheter, affidavits and marriage certificate. I think changes that you would not get approved are small.

If you can get a statement from the bank tomorrow showing joint account that would count as evidence. At the interview they would want to see the joint bank account monthly statements showing activities, but you can worry about all that later.

I think you will be fine for the filing. Most people file shortly after their marriage therefore no chance to produce and collect much evidence. If you don't have much bona fide marriage evidence at this point, you just need to be prepared to show enough proof at the interview. So it would be a good start to get a joint lease if you are renting, joint car ownership, add each other to your health insurances, etc. there is a guide for all that on this forum.

Hi Sonja! I am in the same situation as you, we don't have a joint bank account, it is ridiculous because I can't even work yet so I don't know how they expect a joint bank account hahaha. I was wondering if you got approved with the evidence that you got, because I have the same evidence as you and my interview is going to be scheduled soon. Any other advice you could give me is more than welcome!!!

Helo Cvarga S4,

i did not have my interview yet, it is scheduled for the 5th Janurary. But lots of people told me the itnerview is just a formality. with approving at the USCIS stage we did not have any problem. And i saw people who sent only marriage certificate and few pics and they got approved too at USCIS.

they say here in Czech Rep. the itnerview is no drama at all. short and easy. so we will see.
