Does Employment Authorization need to be renewed if I have a 2 year Green Card?

Hi there -

I'm in the US and have an active 2 year Green Card and an active 1 year Employment Authorization Card. My 1 year Employment Authorization Card expires in January 2017, but I'm not sure if I need to renew it since I've seen people say that a Green Card is sufficient. I'll avoid filing and paying ~$380 if I can but I don't want to get in trouble.

I am currently employed full-time.

My Social Security Cards says "Valid for work only with DHS authorization".

I entered the country on a K1 visa and I'm living with my spouse.

Both cards arrived within a week of each other earlier this year, so if I DO NOT need to renew the Employment Authorization Card then what was the point in it?

You need to go back to the SSN office to have the wordings "Valid for work only with DHS authorization" removed from your SS card.

You don't need to renew EAD anymore since you have the Green Card.

Done with K1, AOS and ROC

Once the Green Application is approved, EAD is voided. With the Green Card you are authorized to work or if you want to travel outside the U.S. you can.

Fix the Social Security Card. No cost. Don't apply for a new EAD...you'll confuse CIS. (smile)

I think they took my wife's EAD away from her when she was issued her green card. Or maybe it was in the interview. Don't remember which, but I remember they took it from her.
