So, I just mailed in mine and my fiance's K1 petition today to Dallas Lockbox facility My fiance asked me to marry him this past August when he was here on a Tourist visa and while doing a one month medical internship at the hospital here in town. He is currently in Medical school. He returned back to Haiti in September in order to continue going to school. Now, I am freaking out wondering if we may get denied because he asked me when he was here doing his medical internship and on a tourist visa. He did not come here with the intent to ask me to marry him, only to do his internship. Things just sort of evolved into an engagement when he was here. Is this okay? At his POE he said he was here to do an internship. We really made a concentrated effort to do everything legally, which is why he returned to Haiti. Not sure why I thought of this until AFTER I mailed out I-129F. Any insight to this topic would be appreciated.

I think you'll be fine honestly. It could be seen as a spontaneous proposal. Then he returned to Haiti in good faith, and you have applied for the K-1.

I think you should have no issues. In fact it looks good to me on this end honestly.

Okay! That's such a relief. I'll sleep better tonight knowing that. :) This whole process is so stressful and I have second guessed everything about this process along the way and trying to make sure we do everything correctly. Trying to have Happy thought and stay positive! :)

Thanks so much for your reply! Spontaneous proposal is exactly what it was. :)

I proposed to my wife a month after filing the K-1 petition. You can propose all you want. As long as you don't actually get married before it's approved then it doesn't matter.

You have nothing to worry about at all.

You can't come to the US on a tourist visa intending to get married. But there is no problem coming to the USA with the intention to get engaged, so even if he had intended doing that all along, its perfectly fine, so long as he had no intention to get married during the trip.

You filed for the k1, and he went home. You've done it all absolutely by the book.

As all the others say, sounds good and is probably how many other K-1 journeys started as well!
