I know some Muslims celebrate this day... and some don't. Last year I was with a bunch of friends who were Desi.. they sang these beautiful songs.. we had a HUGE prayer together.. and TONS OF FOOD.. It was SOOO fun. There had to of been like 80 people in and out of this families home.. :D. But I do know some muslims do not think celebrating the birthday is good..

but like everything.. to each their own

Asked Hubby about this last night and he said it is Saturday in Egypt. Why do they celebrate this on different days?

anyways there they don't do the whole fireworks thing. He said they have sweets and stuff but its really not a big hoopla like in Algiers I guess. He said that they honor the Prophet, pbuh, by reading the Quran, etc.

Henia probably meant it's also on Saturday but Saturday starts after sunset Friday. It's Sunday in Morocco. The difference in days is because of the sighting of the new moon. Though my husband swears it is political between Algeria and Morocco.

Yes I was married before Ramadan! I said construction of our house begins soon!

In my opinion Mawlid an-Nabi is not a holiday and i do not celebrate it....buuuuuuut here in DZ they do. Food, fireworks, visiting family soooooooo... I had a great rende-vouz with my dH. Out on the town. Walking around having people throw sparklers at us, then we drove to Babb El Oued to watch the waves crashing the sea front (my fav activity) had late night pizza and went home for some R and R.

ANd you are right Doodle the day should be observed reading the Quran and praying... and the whole fireworks is actually rather haraam... but here you cannot get past it. Here they find any excuse to celebrate. I would too, you know...
