Is Jewish a race or is that religious discrimination

That's an old debate. Both racism and religious discrimination are bad. I'm more worried about the outcome.

I was asking seriously. I know its out of character for me, but agreed

I was serious too. It's been debated forever. I don't know if someone has a definitive answer or not.

Another question is are the Ashkanazi Jews living in Israel today actually semites? Why are people who oppose their actions called anti semites if they in fact aren't semites? One could argue the Palistinians in Israel are more semites than the Jews living there.

Where do you come up with this stuff? Nevermind, I see exactly where you came up with that idea.

As for the professor, good riddance.

Where did I say that exactly? I couldn't care if this article was on fox news or not. She was an idiot and a bigot, and she's now fired. Fine with me.

The post above me though (what the first part of my statement was in reference to) was too disturbing to quote, if you needed further clarification.

I was not even adressing whether or not what the professor said was racist. It could very well be but I don't know because I haven't read the statements for myself. I was simply asking if the term "anti-semite" is appropriate in this case. Again I wasn't saying it is or isn't. I was just posing the question. Ashkanazi Jews who are the majority of the Jewish population in Israel are not semites but originate from central Asia and migrated to Israel. Sephardic Jews are semites who can trace their ancestry to the Middle East and are the minority of the Jewish population in Israel. Many of them are what we call Palistinians today. I am simply pointing out the term "anti semite" is way over used by people who don't even know what it means.

Where by chance did you come to this knowledge about Ashkanazi Jews?

I can't pretend to be an expert in this, and in fact you may know more than me. Ashkenazi Jews did not "originate" in Central Asia if you go back far enough. They still see themselves as originating from ancient Israel as their origin.

The term "Anti-semite" has been appropriated to mean Anti-Jew, when in reality "Semite" does not translate to Jew in any way. So the way we use "Anti-semite" is a very lax definition. I wouldn't say that it would apply "more" to a Sephardic Jew vs. Ashkenazi. It applies to both in the way society has defined it. Semite though is a much broader term based around languages and origin, which would include people who aren't Jewish in origin. It also involves "descendants" of Shem, son of Noah. If you believe those things.

Wilhem Marr coined the term. A man who hated Jews. The word ant-semite didn't originate from the Jews themselves.

Hey ho fir a racialist approach to Jews and other ethno-cultural groups.

Ya and the word "Antisemite" doesn't origin from the word "semite" either. It's a misnomer since Semite refers to a linguistic/biblical group that includes more than just Jewish people. Antisemite was only meant to target Jews (regardless of their "origin", Ashkenazi, Sephardic or otherwise).
