My current status is - I received my embassy case number today by calling NVC. I plugged it into the CEAC tracker online and got back "At NVC" - next complete the "6 steps" at the link provided below.

My question is - can I go ahead and do all that? DS-261/choose an agent, pay the fees, etc. Or, should I wait for a status update. I didn't receive any email or mail yet and don't have an invoice number, only my embassy case number.

Thank you for your answers :)

I really don't understand this, my application is i129f for a K1. These sound like steps for an immigrant visa. I can only plug in my MNL case number on the immigrant visa tracker though, Non-immigrant requires 4 additional numbers that I wasn't provided

Worry not!! These steps are indeed for immigrant visa- as a K1 Visa applicant, you ignore these. Since K1 is considered "nonimmigrant with intent to immigrate" it is processed as an immigrant visa which is why we get all the same instructions. If you already have your case number, your next step is to go to your embassy website and check what you need to compete to set up your medical and embassy interview, as well as work with your fiancé/e to fill out the DS160.
