As for your question you need a Canada wide check I think it says cpic on it. You only need finger prints done if you have ever been arrested/charged.

The reason why the online one wasn't good enough is because they need an original copy, not a photocopy or a copy that has been printed off. You'll need to either talk to the OPP, city police, RCMP or commissionaires to get a proper name check done.

You need a "name check" police certificate from a police office that looks up your name in CPIC (Canadian Police Information Center) from either Toronto city police, Ontario Provincial Police, RCMP, or Commissionaires, if you have never been arrested or charged with a crime.

You cannot get it online. You MUST go into an office and order the police certificate in person.

If you HAVE been arrested or charged with a crime at any point in time in Canada, you need to have your fingerprints checked as well, not just your name.

I just had my interview on the 14th and they were fine with my police name check from the Edmonton Police Service. It checked the Canadian Police Information Center & the National Repository for Criminal records and local records. I believe those are the only two they require you to get checked. But usually whatever city you live in will also check the local records. You DO NOT need a fingerprint check unless you have a criminal record.

Fingerprints are needed and get your court records. Multiple copies as you will need it and they don't give them back.
