Hello

I am planning to move to my parents at the end of the year. Does anyone know what is the best way and what company that can move your belongs and a car across the country? Possibly not over $1000?

Im not going to have anyone to help with driving across the country and we have more stuff that can fit in our car, so I'm hoping to get our car/stuff shipped to my parents while we book flight tickets. My husband doesn't drive yet so I'm the only one that can drive.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sally, I don't know of anyone who can do it for under $1000. You couldn't do it even if you did the move yourself. I know U-haul offers a service where you can hire people to pack/load the truck properly, and then hire people to unload when you reach your destination.

Ah. Only because we don't have that many items or furniture. We've been renting this house that came fully furnished. So just basic stuff like clothes, a keyboard, TV, and minor things.

And a car.

In that case, I would suggest renting a truck with a car trailer. That will keep your cost down, and depending on the distance you need to travel, may come under your budget.

  • 2 weeks later...

1000 bucks will barely cover the fuel surcharge on a semi. If you paid a semi and they did nothing but haul the freight across country ( no labor and no more than about 4 hours dwell time at either end you would be in the Mid to high 3ks,depending on location.

Now if you could cram all your stuff in that car with roo. For the driver to be able to load and unload it, 1000 might do it

You can also ship stuff less than truckload "LTL" Several good national carriers. FedEx Freight, Roadway, to name a couple. It would have to be on a pallet and shrink wrapped. It's been a while but if memory serves me correct around 400 bucks a skid. Give or take
