Yes and on the flip side, the Argentines attacked to draw attention from the terrible social problems that the military junta at the time were causing. The good thing to come out of that war was that a year later that corrupt "government" collapsed. It was political on both sides.

War is on a large scale what leeches are on a small scale. A great way to let out all that bad blood and let the healing begin

Think of it this way - what if the US had freed all black slaves except one? And what if that single black family was still enslaved and lots of useless white folk were dependent on that familys toils to survive. Would you oppose freeing that family because too many peoples lives would be disrupted by doing so?

no.. but since Argentina wasn't prepared for the attack, they had to send young untrained soldiers.. which the british pigs use to their advantage.. they raped the kids, leave them wounded and freeze to death, make the prisioners walk with no shoes, etc.. there are a lot of stories about the Malvinas.. still an unfair war to me..

My second response is to call bullshit on your accusations until you come up with some hard evidence of it happening. "Stories" are just that.

Fact: European colonialism is a moral issue. Not a political one. Just like slavery was a moral issue. If we're going to claim to be free of it, let's go all the way.

The briefly 'owned' the Falkland Islands - their claim to them is simply due to the fact that Spain (another Colonial/Imperial power) was sold the land rights by France (who were there first, but left). The Argentinian's position was that Spain's territorial holdings reverted automatically to them when they declared independence. Still the issue isn't all that clear-cut as the Argentinians who occupied the islands used the Islands as a base for Piracy, and their colony was to all intents and purposes destroyed by the Americans. Britain subsequently reasserted its claim to ownership over the islands, but not before Argentina had tried without success to reclaim them.

And this isn't really comparable to the sort of colonialism that was practiced in Africa, South America, New Zealand and Australia. No native/indigenous populations were displaced, no land was stolen (e.g. Israel/Palestine). The Argentinians want those islands for much the same reason that the US wants Cuba - because they are threatened by an independent state a few miles off their coast...

You need to get over yourself here. People have made the Falklands Island their home. There is no "occupying force", as everyone there is British. Why the ###### does Argentina have to make such a fuss about such a small island, what does it matter? Is Argentina not huge enough as it is? They should worry about caring for their own people on the mainland before expending any effort on some tiny islands.

The English presence there is a reminder of European colonialism. I'm all for any country doing whatever is necessary to send all the Brits in the Falklands back to Britain.

And if that is done, maybe it is time for the UK to send back to Argentina all the illegals that are scrounging benefits of them. Your hatred of a country that you have probably never been to, stands out. As stated previously, perhaps Argentina would do well to put it's own house in order regarding poverty etc than try to stir up more trouble internationally.

Given what was going on during the 1820's and 30's it did seem a little over the top. The Argentinians didn't really have much a sizeable colony back then - certainly not after the settlement was razed following the American assault on a pirate base that had been atacking their shipping.

So you're talking about the 1982 war which Argentina started, not the 1833 invasion...

I could only view the first link - but the thread seems far from unanimous about the events that took place, and none of the allegations have ever been proven. That's not to say they didn't happen - but the claim that:

seems sensationalist at best. Moreover the suggestion that Argentina was 'attacked' is completely wrong, at least according to my understanding of the events.

well, im on Argentina's side.. the reasons to invade Malvinas was all BS.. besides, if you think GITMO and Iraq was bad.. you should read all the stories about what the british soldiers did to the argentinian kids in the island.. disgusting
