Hey everyone,

I just thought I would write a little post about my experience of my medical at London Knightsbridge today...

So, I got there the night before around 9:30pm and stayed in a travel lodge just off Oxford Street, parking just to the rear of the building which was nice, supposed to be £42 for 24 hours but if you mention the car when you check in they will give you a token to put in the machine after your ticket and it gives you a discount (mine came to £21 to park for 24 hours, bargain!)

We took a stroll down when we got there to make sure we knew exactly where we were going in the morning (I say we as my lovely friend drove me down there).

Found it really easily and head back to the travel lodge for the night.

We started walking down there at 8 o'clock as my appointment was at 9:30 in the morning which gave us time to grab a drink at EAT and take a steady walk to the doctors. I didn't get a picture I'm sorry but I can tell you it's almost at the end of the road with about 4 or 5 steps leading up to it and there is a doctors space on the road outside. It has flat 4 on the buzzer, I pushed the button and they let me straight in even though I was a little early.

When entering the staff on the front desk were lovely! She said that I couldn't see the doctor straight away as I was early but they could start by taking my paperwork.

The documents I took were as follows:

1. Passport

2. 4 x passport photos (i just used US size but I believe it can be either at this stage)

3. Medical questionaire

4. Vaccine records from doctors

5. Police certificate

6. Letter from embassy confirming case number and visa type

7. medical summary from doctor

I am not sure they used the summary but it does request it on the booking confirmation from knightsbridge. It also doesn't mention the letter from embassy on most of the sites of things to take but please do not forget this. I don't think they will do it without it.

I actually put the original of everything and also a photocopy. The copies are not necessary as they will just copy it themselves however I would recommend doing the copies, not only does this save time but it actually makes you look well prepared and let's face it, what person in any of this process won't like you coming prepared?

While she was looking through my paperwork and sorting it we had a nice little chat about life in London and a joke about the fact that they could tell I wasn't from London and I wasn't used to the way of life there. She handed me everything back and thanked me for making her job easier with making the copies and then handed me a questionaire along with a urine sample cup, told me to go to the waiting room and fill in the questionaire and do the urine sample (they require this for every single medical they do for K1 so please don't think you are exempt because you say you have never done drugs or had a STD, it's standard practice). The questionaire is pretty must the same as the first one they give you but in a little more detail and asks you a couple of extra questions like do you smoke? Current or former? To which I'm a former and it felt good writing that for the first time on a form :)

I completed the form and did the urine sample to which I could only manage half a cup and put it into the red sealed bag and handed it into the reception desk.

I didn't have time to go back and sit down as by the time I had done this the man had asked me to follow him to have my chest x ray.

Also a very nice gentleman, he kindly advised me to remove my necklace and my t-shirt and my bra and gave me a stunning blue gown. Had me stand in a really funny position which was only uncomfortable on my throat as I don't have a defined chin to rest on the bar.

He asked me to breathe in and hold it to which he said cool you're done and told me to put my bra back on and the gown but not my t-shirt. I then got to see the image on the screen on my lungs for the first time ever. I said I wish I knew what a good set of lungs looked like so I knew that the x ray was okay to which he replied it's looks pretty good to me (he is not able to tell you so please don't take it as it's okay as it's not him that makes the call).

He then took me the female waiting room as he called it and said someone will be with me shortly to do the physical and wished me luck with my future. Truly made me feel comfortable and less anxious about how I would be treated.

I sat in the waiting room for a very short time when the female doctor came to the door and walked me to the room. She asked to put my stuff on one chair and then sit on the one next to the desk just like you do it your doctors surgery. She went through some more questions which seemed they were exactly the same as what was on the questionaire but maybe asked in a slightly different way. I kept eye contact and stayed confident. I think they are designed to read your body languge as well as read your form.

So these are the things they checked...

1. Eye test (read letters on the wall)

2. Checked my ears and mouth

3. Temperature

4. Felt around my neck and collar bone (i believe this was for things like swollen glands or abnormal lumps that shouldn't be there

5. Felt my stomach (liver also)

6. Checked for pulse or something like that on the top on your feet

7. Listened to breathing using stethoscope (surprisingly warm!)

8. Checked my genitalia for abnormalities or signs of STD

9. Checked blood pressure

10. Took blood sample

Again she was really friendly and told me some things about her and made me feel really comfortable. I know a lot of people worry about the looking at the downstairs part... trust me when I say You will never find someone that is more resistant than me to have someone look there but it really wasn't that bad. She had me pull my underwear down and looked and said great your good to get dressed.

She said that everything looked great to her and couldn't see any problem and sent me back to the main waiting room.

I waited again to see the nurse about vaccines which she told me I was missing 2 that I genuinely thought I didn't need again but apparently I do. I opted to have them done at my doctors surgery and that was it i was done.

BE WARNED UK ONLY HAS TWO TETANUS SHOTS BUT APPARENTLY THE US REQUIRE IT TO BE WITHIN TEN YEARS. DON'T BE FOOLED WHEN YOU HAD IT 10 YEARS AGO AND THE DOCTOR SAYS THE BOOSTER LASTS FOR LIFE... THE US WILL NOT ACCEPT IF OUT OF THE 10 YEARS!

So... she gave me a letter with required vaccines and sent me on my way to pay my final bill. £290 lighter and I was given what looks like another form of vaccines records. I was done!

I was out by 10:30 so only an hour!

I was advised that if I didn't hear off them within 5 days then no news is good news! I wished them all a good day and left.

All in all an experience I will never forget because I got myself so worried about it and it really was not that bad at all.

So far I am all good for my interview in a couple of weeks time

I hope this helps anyone wanting to know the process for the London medical and if you have any questions I will be sure to answer them :)

Zoe: just so you are aware if you opted to not get those shots at Knightsbridge and you are obtaining them after the fact, you are going to need to seek out a US Civil Surgeon, once stateside and pay them to transcribe everything all over again for your AOS application.

Okay, I have no idea what that means :S she never once mentioned that I would have to get a civil surgeon to have to transcribe it for me. Where do you even find a civil surgeon?

I'm going to direct you to the other thread for this answer :) Hope it helps clarify. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/616802-medical-paperwork-please-help/?p=8380764

So glad it went nice & smoothly for you! How long did you have to wait to get a medical appointment?

Before I started my job in September I had to have all my immunisations checked so I'm hoping I'm good!

Let us know how your interview goes please & good luck! Xx

You replied to a 10 month old post. Zoe is in the US now and married.  Your immunization check for your job was UK requirements. Be sure and check the US list as that's what your immigration is based on.
