Hello,

Hypothetical question for you:

I am a US sailor and am applying for my spouse to obtain a CR-1 Visa. I am currently serving in Italy at a US Naval base in Naples.

If my spouse is approved for a CR-1 visa, can she live on the naval base with me treating the base as 'US Soil?'

Thanks.

I assume she has already been added to DEERS and has a dependent ID. She does not need an approved visa to live "on base", just modification to orders and availability of housing.

She must go through a POE within the 6 month visa validity. So best to coordinate the visa paperwork with the end date of your orders/her travel to a US POE.

OP once your spouse enters the US on the spousal visa and becomes a LPR she will have a special process available for her to file for naturalization right away based on INA 319 (b),

form N-400, Part 1, checkbox C.

This is assuming you will continue to be stationed abroad for (I think) at least 6 months.

Here is somebody else who did the process:

When she gets her green card, the continuous residence and presence will be waived, ditto her living overseas with you while you are serving will be counting as living on US soil, provided she IS ON YOUR ORDERS.
