http://crooksandliars.com/2016/11/donald-i-love-veterans-trump-didnt-attend

Yet, his record shows he fires them for serving, fought to have them not be able to earn a living as street vendors, ridiculed a decorated war hero by saying "I like people who weren't captured", ridiculed a Gold Star family repeatedly and mercilessly, gloated when a man gave him his Purple Heart saying "it was much easier" to get it handed to him and minimized the damage IED's cause by calling them a "little ride upward."

Yeah, he loves the Vets.

Anyways, 3 days after Trump won the Presidential election it would seem fitting for him to honor the veterans in some way, right? Visit Arlington Cemetery while he was in DC meeting President Obama, go to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial or at the very least make some sort of donation or acknowledgement at a VA or Veterans center, right?

Guess how much he did.

Zero. That's right, our president elect loves veterans so much that he completely ignored the one day of the year designated as a day to honor current, past and future members of the military.

At least he sent a tweet written by a staffer that read:

"Today we express our deepest gratitude to all those who have served in our armed forces. #ThankAVet"

Just a tweet. Can you imagine the rage if President Obama did that?

Unfortunately Veteran's Day is swept under the rug in general in the US. I think this is because the date is much more historic and important to Western Europe, namely France and the UK, than it is to Americans.

I have, though not this year. But I never realized it was a requirement for a president-elect to attend.

I'm surprised Obama attended one. He usually blows off events important to our military. He pointed out how he increased VA funding by 85% (haven't checked to see if this is accurate or not), but failed to talk about how he cut military wages year after year; in fact, under Obama, military pay took a cut for the first time in as long as I can remember.

He also talked about unity for the US. Great concept. Wrong venue, IMHO. A Veteran's Day event should have focused on those who have served and those who are currently serving. Not that there is anything wrong with unity, don't misunderstand me. Just shouldn't use Veteran's Day to further an agenda, however necessary it may be.

I've never attended a Veteran's Day Event in my life but then I'm not the President-Elect.

Your surprised? Which veterans day did he not attend one? Think hard.

Obama was absent for several military events, particularly funerals and events for generals. He was playing golf when General Harold Greene, the highest ranking military member to be killed in action since Vietnam, was laid to rest. Meanwhile, he ordered flags to half mast for drug addict Whitney Houston.

Obama sent three aides to the funeral of the thug Michael Brown. But none to the funeral of Margaret Thatcher, Chris Kyle (never even mentioned his death, in fact, though it happened around the same time as Whitney Houston), nothing for Nicholas Oresko, the president of Poland (another golf game), his own aunt (another golf game).

Not very respectful, overall, though I do realize he is a very busy person. But when you play golf instead... That's just low.

Oh you mean the state funeral of Lech and Maria Kaczynski who was murdered (sorry killed under suspicious circumstances) by the Kremlin? Do you not remember why Obama couldn't attend the funeral, although he very much was going to? The same reason why many dignitaries could not attend. Poland not only closed their airspace but it wasn't too safe to be flying anywhere in Europe, what with that ash clogging up planes.

As for Whitney? Obama never lowered the flag. You can thank Chris Christie for that. And yes, people were mad at him for it.

I know these are all talking points from a certain website and spread in memes, but many of them should be properly examined before using them as evidence.

Ultimately, I really don't care if the President, or any President attends a funeral of a token special soldier of national importance for brownie points (because if they don't they get a lot of E-rage). ALL members of the military are equally as important. I wasn't mad that Clinton didn't attend my grandfather's funeral, but as a soldier he was entitled to a nice military funeral, a letter from the President etc. Perhaps we should put into law that a President attend every funeral of a military service member and the flag should only be lowered for military deaths. I'd be fine for that.

When did Margaret Thatcher and Nicholas Oresko become part of the US military? Or did you just move the goal posts, because that was the question I asked. Obama also did not order flags flown at half mast for Whitney Houston. He issued a statement of condolence. You shouldn't watch alternate news if you can't discriminate fantasy from reality. Everyone posting on this site was alive during this time. You need to be a little more selective with the BS here.

Reagan made it to 3 out of 8 memorial day services at Arlington BTW. Maybe the bar was set low to begin with.

Well, I wouldn't agree with the funeral of EVERY soldier, otherwise a president would never be able to... Preside. But when it a general officer, essentially your right hand men & women, yeah, that should garner a president's attention.

Meanwhile, here's George Bush, whom I know many despise, honoring veterans...

http://people.com/politics/george-w-bush-honors-soldiers-on-veterans-day-by-painting-their-portraits/

I like the idea of every soldier's family getting a letter from the president, even if it's a rubber stamped one. That would mean more to many than that silly retirement certificate, for sure.

That letter meant the world to my grandmother in her time of grief. And he actually signed the thing. But you know George and other Presidents took the heat for their recreational days too, which weren't exactly always tactful.

But I like mellow George, who should have been painting all along instead of presidenting... like Jeb.. who belongs fishing or something.
