Many people have discussed that there is a certain racist element that supports Trump. It's a small number of the total support, I'd suppose, but it does exist. Some people are very defensive about this or have taken it personally and I'm not sure why. Perhaps it's an uncomfortable feeling, even by association. The way it stops is to condemn it absolutely, and the way it starts is with Mr. Trump.

I commend the NC GOP's statement and for saying they stand with the Democratic party on this. Whether Trump makes America great again or not, I don't know, but putting these pukes in their place would be a good start.

"These acts and thought processes are no reflection of the heartbeat of this great country and are counter to the efforts to make America great again. We stand with the Democratic Party in calling these out-of-state troublemakers to go home."

The KKK, despite being a gross and racist organization, has the right to exist under US law, just as the US Nazi party or any other extremist group does. In Russia, extremist groups like them are banned and would be put in prison. Unfortunately the whole freedom of speech/freedom to protest thing protects even ugly racist bigots. So, if we swing towards the Russian way of locking up extremist groups, our country starts looking more authoritarian...allowing them to exist comes with the price of freedom it seems.

Since he's a New Yorker, I really don't think he thinks much personally about the more extremist fringe groups like the KKK who are found outside of big cities. I mean, Trump praised LGBT people during the Rep Convention, which is in direct opposition to what the KKK believes in. I think Trump will probably gain some more diplomatic skills down the road and start condemning who needs to be condemned, at least, I hope so....maybe I'm wrong and he'll end up becoming more extreme, but given his past history as a Democrat who turned Repub, maybe he'll grow to be more middle of the road than people imagine. Wishful thinking here!

Here's the difference - I've already seen so many comments on social media calling on these people to pack up and go home and disassociate from anything to do with his presidency. All from his supporters. He/they don't need them, he/they don't want them.

On the other hand...all I'm hearing is crickets from the other side on the riots for the most part. You know, Obama and Clinton came out the first night/day and acted halfway decent, we all said we gotta hand it to them, but they've already lost that respect from me for being so quiet and not telling people to cut this stuff out.

Is there a large difference between the KKK and modern-day terrorists? Oh I know I know freedom of speech and all that, but there is raging hypocrisy from politicians when they don't like certain speech but let others slide. This would never have been a problem of course if our founders had really taken the principles of liberty and freedom seriously in that all men are created equal. If there had been no slavery.. if the KKK had ever risen in the course of that changed history they would have well been charged with terrorism, murder, etc. But we never held the KKK accountable for their actions, in the way we hold others accountable. McCarthyism supposedly was to go after Nazis, but they're allowed to exist too. Since you mention Russia locking up extremist groups and how authoritarian that is (let's be fair here... they will and can lock up any group), take a look at what is going on in Turkey right now. It is shocking and horrific, and we are saying very little about it. They want Gulen, who is hiding out in America, so they can put him in one of the gulags they are building to house the thousands of innocents they are rounding up. Mike Flynn who is being tapped for a position in the Trump administration (with his dubious ties to the Kremlin and Turkish lobbying as well) labeled Gulen a 'terrorist' with no evidence to back up his claim other than Turkey's say so of their 'myth coup' and would love to hand him over. I can think of a ton of other examples where Free speech isn't so free involving various groups within the US and the naughty things they get up to.

I have actually stumbled upon a cross burning in my college days in East Texas by the KKK. I also watch them protest the streets of Dallas back in 80's to protest 7-11 selling Playboy and Penthouse magazines which actually worked and they stopped selling them.
