11th Hour Question- Vaccinations for K1, Etc.

All,

Everything has been going smoothly with my K1 app and my fiancé has her interview scheduled for Dec. 8th. She just had her medical check in HCM and they told her she didn't need any vaccinations for a K1. They said it only applied to K3. How could this be? Could any of you let me know what vaccinations she should get before her interview?

Also, I'm getting ready to send all the paperwork to her through Fed Ex, INCLUDING my original birth certificate. I'm VERY nervous about this. I've been putting this off because I'm petrified of it getting lost in the mail. Any words of wisdom involving this?

Lastly, I only got one document notarized-- our history letter. Should anything else be notarized?

Thanks a million!

-S

Congrats on her upcoming interview.

K-1, K-2 and CR-1 it's all the same you need vaccinations or proof of prior vaccine in order for a visa to be issued.

Words of wisdom on the BC. You already sent that to USCIS so a copy should be enough for the embassy having said that you can always order more on-line and that is what I would do.

Order 2 more copies at least as you may need them later down the road once she is here. Make copy of entire package you are sending to her in event it gets lost you have another one to send out.

I'm not aware that anything needs to be notarized. Language translated documents might be another story.

There is a Vietnam forum here. I suggest you take a look at prior post there if you have not already.

If the panel doctor said your fiancee did not need any, she is not required to have any before the interview. He/she is the one who signs the DS-3025 form (Vaccination Document Worksheet), which is all that is needed for the consulate to issue the visa (if your fiancee is approved). The vaccine requirement is different between a K1 and an IR1/CR1. If you are a K1, you do not need to have all required shots to enter the U.S., as opposed to an IR1/CR1 where the spouse must have completed all required shots prior to entry.

Now, when it's time for the AOS, if she needs any vaccinations, then she can have them done here.

I stand corrected. Frontgear is correct for the vaccines it is different for K-1 vs CR-1. Sorry it has been over 15 years since I did a CR-1.

Best of luck on the rest of the interview process.

I'm applying for my wife's green card (AOS) now; do i have to submit the I-693? do i have to get her the vaccinations before applying for the green card? and is there a link to these required vaccinations?

thanks

I submitted the I-693 for my wife's AOS. I've read that some did not. It only cost us $65 and we did not want the possibility of an RFE so we did it anyway. You will not need a full medical exam unless your spouse's last medical exam is more than a year old. If you want a piece of mind, search for a local Civil Surgeon who will transcribe the DS-3025 to the I-693 and you're good to go.

Hi S,

Your fiancee doesn't need to have vaccination in Vietnam for K1 visa.

My fiancee had her physical examination at Cho Ray on October 25, 2016 and the nurse told her K1 doesn't need vaccination.

We passed the interview on November 21, 2016.

We'll need to have the vaccination in the US when applying for AOS (adjustment of status).

Goodluck.
