I'm not implying that Trump supporters have jobs and Clintonites don't. My point was that any of these people that are marching, chanting, breaking, setting fires, are a bunch of lowlifes who need to get job to keep them busy because they have too much free time on their hands.

Riots no. Protests yes, after he was sworn in and during his presidency, a few turning violent iirc, and I can even find stories of arrests. I remember several in my town in fact.

I remember fear and silence. One of the first things to come from the then-new administration was along the lines of "If you know of someone who does not support the aims of Dear Leader, report him to flag@whitehouse.gov." People were too afraid even to discuss their opinions amongst themselves in muted tones.

This. Seriously, let's not suicide the country in order to punish one man. The USA is still freer than a lot of places *cough Russia cough*....that's still worth being proud of, in my opinion, regardless of whether or not people are happy with the outcome. Also, a large amount of establishment Republicans hate Trump and some even supported Hillary, so we can't just assume that Trump is going to bulldoze over the law without any opposition.

It's also surprising to me that people aren't protesting the Electoral College since Hill won the popular vote. Be mad at the system, folks, that's what put Trump there.

I agree with Sanders that I think a lot of the Rust Belt voters did feel left behind and there were some Sanders backers in those areas who ended up pro-Trump. It seems Hill's campaign just failed to ignite the spark that was needed to push her through in those states in particular. The "Change from 2012" map from the NY Times is telling. Sure, there are some toothless dumb hicks in those areas (my mom's family comes from rural Michigan, I've seen them for myself, heh) but there are also lots of nicer, decent people, albeit uneducated, who really did feel left out by the Washington establishment.

Trump has a lot of pressure on his shoulders to make those people happy if he hopes to remain in office. We'll see if he lives up to all the hype or not.

and i completely agree, ultimately the racist, bigoted element (that totally voted for trump by they by no means represent the majority of trump supporters) of trump's support will be the loudest and most visible. the whole reason i told everybody to read up on joe bageant is because this is exactly the demographic he spoke of and knew well. working white class, working white class in wva and where i currently live. he knew what he was talking about and wrote about the anger and distrust this demographic has for the federal government (that has grown exponentially worse since 9/11) because they have all been forgotten. i've read an article or two the past few days concerning the democratic party and their need to return to the working man and quite using minorities as a crutch for their lack of progressiveness. i completely agree, and joe was the absolute know it all on this trend even as it was just starting to fester.

i would never expect bernie to blanket with trump supporters are 'idiots, dumb, racist,' etc because that wouldn't be a reasonable or truthful statement. bernie is pretty solid in the truth department.

Yes, it is the "norm". Regardless of which party "wins". I didn't protest Obama's first win. I opposed his second win, though I correctly predicted it. I still do not feel that he has done much good for America; more that we "checked the block" by electing a black president.... But oh, how I wish it were Ben Carson or someone else who's policies I could get behind.

But at the end of the day, though I disliked him as a president, I never wanted to see him fail. That would mean we as a country were worse off than we are today. I hope Trump is able to make good on some of his promises (though like ALL politicians, I realize much of it is just words to win votes, even though some things promised are beyond a president's ability to change). I hope American will remain what it has been for many, many decades... The country everyone wants to go to, even being willing to break the law to get here. That means it IS a great place to live.
