Violence has broken out at anti-Trump rallies across America overnight as tens of thousands marched against the President-elect.

The streets of downtown Oakland in California were choked with smoke Thursday as police launched tear gas and protesters lit fires, in what became by some distance the most violent of the many protests against the election of Donald Trump.

More than 6,000 protesters were seen on the streets of Oakland with an initially peaceful march down a cop-lined street turning nasty after some protesters threw bottles at officers.

In New York, home of the President-elect, at least 30 people were arrested when cops cracked down on twin demonstrations in Columbus Circle and at Trump Tower.

As many as 7,500 demonstrators were believed to have been split between the two locations, chanting 'Black Lives Matter' and 'Donald Trump, go away, racist, sexist, anti-gay.'

Cher and Madonna were among the NYC protesters, with Cher telling one supporter they needed to 'fight.'

And thousands more filled streets in Los Angeles in an apparently disorganized mass that had no specific start or end point, taking over the 110 Freeway. Other protesters gathered outside City Hall, lighting fires and waving Trump heads on sticks.

Trump's poll-defying win has sparked a wave of similar rallies across the country. Protests stopped traffic in Chicago, Illinois; Portland, Oregon; and San Francisco, California, among many others.

Outside the White House, a candlelit vigil was being held in protest against Mr Trump's inflammatory and divisive brand of politics. But even peaceful protests in that city went awry, with at least one protester being bundled into the back of a van by the Secret Service.

Exactly. These are not spontaneous protests. They are organized and paid for by Move On/ Soros. Same as Occupy was. Look at the signs. Thousands of pre made signs. All paid for and organized by people connected to the DNC.

Same old playbook. Organize protests and hope for violence.

I never support violent protests or protests that prevent people from going about their everyday lives, like blocking roads. People need to get a grip, this election was won or lost (depending who you backed) fair and square. Accept it and go about your daily lives.

Blocking roads and interstates and lighting fires is not peaceful protest. Freedom of speech is not a free pass to intrude on other peoples freedoms to go about their lives.

Now I don't support violent protests after a presidential election regardless of who gets elected and who I voted for (I did not vote for him).

That being said, if you are right and it was "prepared", that would imply they (Move On/Soros/The men behind the curtain) knew she would lose? I would be surprised by that. I guess they could have "prepared" just in case.

These people know they won't change the outcome, but they just want to disrupt honest, hard working people's lives. They're the ones who should be working instead of playing in the streets. Same as Occupy. A bunch of bums who run the streets instead of working or looking for a job.

According to the winner of this election the results in reverse might not have been acceptable.

I agree though, with the protests being non-spontaneous and violent, the fringe of the Democratic Party to the wide Left is only making sure that the fringe to the wide Right on the Republican Party can go ahead and get what they want as they did this election.
