Hello all! I am wondering if when I print out emails from my fiancé and I , if they need to be translated as they are written in Spanish? My fiancé lives in Cuba and I am a tad bit confused still. Do I need to add both of our birth certificates and single status certificates in the petition?

Hi Acguillen4,

I have read a lot of posts on this site that say it is NOT necessary to translate for supplemental documentation, such as emails, chat logs, etc. Official forms and birth certificates will need to be translated. The consulate officer at the Embassy will likely read Spanish. The only benefit to adding translated emails is to the person reviewing your petition (to approve your NOA2). As long as you have the required documentation, proof that you have met within the last 2 years and can show you are having an ongoing relationship, then they have no reason to deny your NOA2.

Once you get to the interview stage, then all your supplemental documentation will be read and discussed and used as evidence towards your case. At that point, it doesn't need to be in English because your consulate officer will probably be a Spanish speaker. Just make sure you have it at the interview. It's just nice if you give it to them first so they can read it ahead of time, assuming they will.

I ended up using Google Translate to translate my 70 pages of chat logs, just as a courtesy to the Service Center handling my case. A friend of mine did this on her K-1 visa a few years back (for a Cuban fiance) and she was approved.

I don't believe you need the Cuban's birth certificate until the interview, but I guess it depends on your case. I didn't need it because I am a US citizen and I live in the US.

Do we need single status certificates? I just included Statements of Intent to Marry signed and dated from each of us. I did not certify or notarize them. I was thinking about certifying them for the interview though. I think the statements are enough for the petition.

Good luck!

Thanks,

Forena

Hi Forena99,

Thank you for that information. So for the petition we do not need my fiancé birth certificate or single status certificate? Good to know as I was also born and live in the U.S. As for the emails/ FB chats I was thinking of only printing a few with spread out dates as there are so many, too many to print out every single one sent , lol. Also, How did your fiancé sign the paperwork? I was thinking of sending it via email having him print it sign it and mail it to me. Have you gotten approved yet for the first step? If so, how long did it take? Sorry to ask so many questions, it's just the process seems somewhat confusing at times.
