Tell me if I am wrong. BUSH tried to solve illegal immigration and it did not pass the congress. So I dont where will be any chance in the future. Yet. Obama said he will open a path to citizenship to illegal immigrants however he did not do anything too.

Nothing will change. Us is governed by families not by presidents.

Bush is nothing like Trump. Not even after 9/11 was Bush even close to as openly anti-Islamic and anti-immigrant as Trump.

The political stratification of the nation is also nothing like it was under Bush. The idealogies of both the left and right (more so the right) have deviated from the middle significantly in the past years. We are more polarized and more extreme at this point than in any other point in history.

The combination of both those things make for an entirely different playing field.

I came in through same-sex marriage with K1 visa. He may place a supreme court judge who could overturn that. I'm still on AOS. I hope his win doesn't affect us negatively. ?

My same-sex Ukrainian fiancé should be in the USA and legally married before Trump takes the oath of office (paperwork now on its way from NVC to embassy in Kyiv), but I'm terribly frightened about what will happen with the Supreme Court in the long term. Here in Minnesota we put same-sex marriage into law before the Supreme Court decision, but I fear they could go 180 degrees and outlaw it in all 50 states. :ranting::protest:

Nothing will change folks, for one thing any political process would take awhile to happen and 2 I do not believe this is even on his agenda, yes he says he want's to make it difficult for ILLEGAL immigrants but not for law abiding people, the US is getting burdened by having so many illegal immigrants, mainly from Mexico...but embracing immigrants this is what our country is founded on, we (us citizens) were all at some point in our family history an immigrant here!

What a sad and embarrassing time for us US citizens. I'm so sorry it came to this.

We're currently waiting for my esposo's 10 year green card. In about 5 months we can apply for his citizenship. Once he has that we're already planning on moving back to Costa Rica. I just can't let my years of hard work and thousands of dollars go to waste, he's getting that damn citizenship!!!!

hi

no, he can't change anything, and also, he starts in January, and the new members of Congress voted as well

Congress is the only one who can change immigration laws

so don't worry

I think you are 100% correct.......no need for anyone to worry.

Nothing will change. Us is governed by families not by presidents.

Bush didn't try to do anything except line his family's pockets with oil money. But even if he tried, he wouldn't be able to because for the last 2 presidents (16 years), Congress has been deadlocked and nothing has gotten done.

Trump has a fully Republican Congress (however, many of the Republicans don't back him) so only time will tell.

To those panicking about their immigration status, nothing will change for at least 8 months in my opinion. The process to change anything is slow, and he comes into office in 2 months, and I added another 6 before anything would actually be put into motion.

My wife and I are feeling very down for this new change that's coming, she even has thought the idea of leaving the US, which overwhelms me a lot! just the idea of start all over again for the second time when I'm starting to adjust here is terrifying, more money, more paperwork, more waiting, more headaches, I'm afraid it would be too much; there is no way we can go back to my home country if things get too crazy here, because it is a big mess right now and it's not getting better.

We are more concerned in the social aspect of this new change, we hope the hate, the racial, religious and sexual differences don't take over this great country, many lives and efforts have cost to have equal rights and opportunities, we can just hope for the best and continue living our normal lives.

i'm more worried about me getting there to the US to get married to my fiance. We're a gay couple so it's kind of a double whammy for Trump. We got the NOA1 at the day of election even!

Same-sex here too. We actually just got our marriage license today no problem and we'll be getting married next week. I think once things are already approved, I can't see them retro-actively revoking them, especially beyond AOS already.

How long does it take for an executive order to come into effect?

Just wondering, if Mr. Mirinda wants to ban Muslims entering into The United states through an executive order assuming he decides to do it on Jan 21.

I agree that it will take him time to make any major changes to the law for green cards, but what I'm concerned about is his ability to issue executive orders i.e. an temporary ban on people from Muslim countries. He needs no congressional consent to do that. And I believe executive orders may go in effect as soon as they're signed so we could possibly be looking at a ban one day 1, January 20.

Grant it, whatever he signs into order would not necessarily be permanent and could be overruled by Congress or the Supreme Court, but that would take time and delay the already long process for those of us applying.

Can anyone provide some insight on this?

In Turkey there is huge us air force. Adana incirlik. If he bands muslims to us how Turkey is going to let them to use their land. So u.s can not fight anything in syria and iraq. U.s needs friends to fight with terrorists.

Trump is a man of the world, https://www.trumphotels.com/chicago/chicago-hotel-events lists Chicago Pride for guest events so I would not worry.

There are far greater issues in play than to worry about a few marriages - same sex or hetro ! Like the opoids flowing in from Mexico, Canada and elsewhere in the world.
