Thank you! Clearly I did not remember that correctly. I was pulling from memory for that!

If that is the case I would imagine he would have a ridiculous amount of backfire from taking any action against legal immigration considering his wife's history. It is all just speculation at this point!

Thanks again though!! I appreciate it!

His wife's situation has absolutely no bearing.

Hypocrisy is not something that prevents politicians from changing laws. If he has a supportive Congress anything can happen. **edit AND SUPREME COURT

If you think that "backfire" is going to stop him, realize he received more backfire than any modern major-party candidate for many of the stances he has taken and was still the winner of the election.

I'm most concerned about those people who are intolerant of immigrants and minorities coming out of the woodworkkk to feel free to harass us. However, I want to be wrong, I want everyone who is against Trump to be wrong. I want him to prove us so wrong that he has actually made America "great again".

Look guys.. The best thing we can do right now, at this moment, is calm down. Every kind of visa applier, let it be K-1 or F2A or H1B, are scared and overwhelmed. We don't know anything for certain right now. What we do know is that we have time. We have at least 6 months to figure out our options. I know it's not enough and it's definitely not what we want to hear but this is all we've got. Mine is a F2A visa, my case has been completed and I'm just 2 months from my PD becoming current. And now instead of focusing all my energy on my interview prep, I can't stop thinking about how when I get to the interview, the interviewer is going to reject my visa just because I'm Indian. All we want to do is reunite with our families. :clock:

I slightly disagree that calming down is the best thing. But yea, needless fear is not helpful.

I think we need to turn that fear into determination, and come together. Stand up for each other and fight to protect the most vulnerable among us. Get educated, stay informed, and stay vigilant. Know your rights as they exist right now and push back on any attempt to significantly curtail those rights.

I meant calming down in the way that instead of panicking, let's focus on our situations. :) And I agree with everything you said. After all, that's what this forum is all about. :)

Honestly, I really don't think he's going to stop us from AOS or coming into the United States through the legal way. I get that you all get scared but I never ever heard him talk about stopping certain visas or shutting down USCIS. He has to pass the Supreme Court too, it's not that easy to get a law through. I sincerely hope he's going to do what he said he'll do in his speech yesterday and as long as you all are doing it the right way, you have nothing to be afraid of.

hi

no, he can't change anything, and also, he starts in January, and the new members of Congress voted as well

Congress is the only one who can change immigration laws

so don't worry

what about my Muslim husband who is already here and hasn't applied for citizenship yet? Will his citizenship be denied because of his religion? I am seriously despondent right now

Hello one and all. I know we are all discussing what will happen to immigration under a DJT presidency. What about my husband who does not have citizenship yet? He is a green card holder and if DJT has his way he will at the very least require my husband to register and carry an ID. Could DJT sign an executive order to deport Muslim green card holders or prevent them from gaining citizenship? I am in a panic, despondent, nauseous. :'(

Come on Guys, come one. It is so clear you guys dont live in us. So clear.

Donald Trump does not much have influence in the united states. We have "checks and balances" so he is not a king. Period.

Now, do you remember when obama and bush said he will let illegal immigrants to become a citizen? Both of them could not passed that bill. So it is not easy to pass a bill they want. Plus, when we had the obamacare it took years and years to put on progress. So the new immigration law will take months and years to see in progress. Also, do you know more illegals have been deported in Obamas administration than other administrations? No, you all guys think Obama is the best thing ever happen to U.S.

So, dont panic. The system in the US is very different than our nations. FBI-CIA and all other departments work freely.

Also, he was kind a soft at the speech. This is interesting too.

However, the racistm nazisim will rise. I have heard in a bar in Alabama once Donald won the president, people were scream "Build that wall, Build that wall " Well, this is bad. One day, he can say terrible things to illegal immigrants and Muslims and next day we will see the reactions on the streets. This is not good. Thats what we should worry about.

Dont forget, Presidents do not have much impact in the united states since we have checks and balances.

That's not really how the Supreme Court works. Laws don't just automatically have to go through them, so no Donald Trump doesn't necessarily have to pass the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court can decide if it wants to take a judicial review case on certain legislation, but that legislation has to have already been in effect and usually after many other lower courts have already taken up suits against the law.

With his nomination, the court will likely be stacked on the conservative side, making it so that even in the case that it does get picked for judicial review, there is still a chance something will be upheld.
