Wow.....   Do you guys think that the extreme vetting on all immigration programs will affect those with various applications in progress? It seems insane to consider whether someone can "make contributions to the national interest". As in what exactly is the national interest and who gets to decide that?

 

We could also be seeing some changes on forms in the very near future with "amended application forms that include questions aimed at identifying fraudulent answers and malicious intents".

Really nervous with the executive order signed by Trump. Does the immigration ban only cover those countries listed or all muslim majority countries? My fiance is in Bosnia, a european country but it does have a slight majority of muslims.

I think people focus on some of the radical behaviors associated with the religion that a few amount of people demonstrate  It's unfortunate, but it's not really a matter of "white privilege".

Who gets to decided that are The Secretary of Homeland Security, The Director of National Intelligence, The Secretary of State, and the President, according to the wording in the draft itself. This is why who is voted into office and who their cabinet picks are are very important.

 

And yes, from my interpretation, this can affect any stage in your process from Visa to Citizenship. They can just stop it dead it its tracks if they see fit.

Yes, very true.... I was speaking more broadly/theoretically because I was so dumbfounded that this could be included as part of a vetting procedure in code of "national security". Thanks for listing the specifics for those who do not know.

Contributions to the national interest, I know one. Military target languages for crypto and translators/interpreters. We used to run a program called MAVNI via the Army that took kids who spoke target languages from various legal, but non immigrant visas and allowed them to enlist and naturalize even in a short time. Why? National interest. Apparently languages like Arabic and Korean are super hard for English speakers to become fluent in, even after DLI training.
