So what happened to the federal hiring freeze that was announced?  Interesting seeing as he's hiring 5000 border guards.  Uscis could definitely use some more employees ?

Indeed. We are apparently in similar page. You are adjusting status I am removing conditions....

But considering both Sweden and Brasil are catholic places with no history of terrorism or extremism we should be fine.

I feel bad for everyone from Middle east at this point I think I would advice make sure you guys don't have terrorism or extremism influences and perhaps hire immigration lawyers...

He probably won't deny everyone but he will triple check everyone before going on with anything

Sweden is secularized, but traditionally Lutheran... very not catholic ;) but yes, I agree with your point...

and I do feel bad for all those couples and families.. :(

I doubt DHS positions are part of the hiring freeze (USCIS has a few job positions listed, too).

"The head of any executive department or agency may exempt from the hiring freeze any positions that it deems necessary to meet national security or public safety responsibilities,” I think USCIS positions would fall under national security, no?

I didn't see that! He's hiring 5000?! I secretly hope that the USCIS is excluded from this whole freezing-part but since it's a part of DHS, I figure it counts for them as well.

Well we will see once the executive order comes out but:

The border enforcement order includes plans to hire 5,000 more U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents used to apprehend people seeking to slip across the border and to triple the number of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents used to arrest and deport immigrants living in the United States illegally.

I guess that federal hire freezing doesn't count. He said while signing; "Except for Military!" Donald Trump is so confusing and it angers me somethings lol. Cash me ousside, howbow da

Precisely.  It almost feels like a trade off.  He softens on DACA and depending on who you speak to deporting parents of legal US Residents and Citizens, but in exchange for a wall and possibly bring back CIA torture

ISn't the whole freeze for economic reasons... The USCIS is self-supported by the fees... in my logic it shouldn't be affected?

I'm really on the fence there. You would think it wouldn't be affected because it's self-funded BUT they are a branch of Homeland Security, FBI does background checks etc, which probably makes it federal again. This fries my little brain.

Uscis is so much more than our applications.  Sometimes it can be difficult for us all to remember that.

Well so it could logically have implications on security check processing times if anything, but on the other hand that should fall under

"necessary to meet national security or public safety responsibilities"...

so in my mind the freeze shouldn't affect the number of employees at USCIS.. or the processing times..  lol *sigh* we will see

Rounding up illegals benefits everyone who is trying to legally immigrate.

The pro illegal people will use scare tactics to scare the good and decent people are paying the price to follow the rules and do things the right way.

Unleashing enforcement on criminal illegals will also sweep up their family members who are here illegally but not criminals.

Yeah, I've been googling USCIS/Federal. Their jurisdiction is federal government of the United States. However, on their website they do not confirm they are a federal institution. And indeed what Transborderwife said, USCIS is so much more than just petitions and handing out permanent resident cards.

Yes.. but they are still "a number of employees" that are funded by fees... that number shouldn't be affected
