Just keep in mind here, guys. If you're not part of the victimized group, you don't get to decide whether or not those groups are allowed to be afraid.

I came in through same-sex marriage with K1 visa. He may place a supreme court judge who could overturn that. I'm still on AOS. I hope his win doesn't affect us negatively. ?

I wouldn't worry about the Supreme Court overturning same sex marriage any time soon. Antonin Scalia, the justice whose vacancy Trump will fill, voted against us, so as long as the 5 justices who overturned the Defense of Marriage Act are still on the court I think they will uphold our marriages should a future challenge arrive there. In addition, now that there are so many same sex couples legally married, the court would think twice about those already married and the impact of undoing those marriages or of leaving those intact but preventing future marriages, essentially introducing a two-tiered system.

I would be slightly worried about Congressional Republicans introducing a new law to prevent our marriages, but thanks to President Obama, and his courageous stand on our behalf, far more than half of the country now believes we have the right to marry. In addition, because public attitudes have changed so much since the 1990s when the Defense of Marriage Act was passed, I would fully expect Democrats in the Senate to filibuster any such legislation.

He's not going to outlaw gay marriage. Google Milo yannopoulous. This guy leads the LGBTQCB++ Two Spirit and all that jazz in support of Trump and has met with Trump a number of times... There is a growing number of Gays that realize Trump is not the Boogeyman or monster under your bed. Stay out of liberal news sites and you will sleep better.

I believe that the person who played around with TAX is the same person who will play around with his supporters.

TRUMP WILL BE COMPLETELY DIFFERENT AT THE WHITE HOUSE.

That does not mean I support him but I expect this scenario.

WHY?

Politics always force you to act different in so many issues.

Exactly. He's already backing down on completely yanking out ACA. Now hes just going to modify it.

He has made repeal and replace on his key points, I suggest not believe what the media is feeding you. If you believe them then Hillary would of won in a landslide, instead it was quite the opposite

If I was in your shoes I would have no fears, I don't forsee any issue coming her from India on a spousal visa. Now if it was a work related visa for IT then I would be worried.

He just said yesterday that one of the takeaways from meeting with obama was that he was open to modifying it. Not repealing it completely.

I miss my wife and I know we will have a hard time waiting. I've been researching what will be done differently here and found out the following (if what was said during the election would become a reality):

Point one:

There will be tight screening on people from regions prone to terrorism and some will be band from immigration visas. (reference: Trump contract with voters). My opinion? I agree with that as a measure to identify who can potentially carry harmful ideology. On the other hand, I hope to God that this doesn't mean longer processing time. I'm not nervous or worried about this. Nothing to hide, nothing to worry about. As a matter of fact, sometimes I get worried when debating these wrong ideologies that I may become a target myself.

Point two:

Here I quote Trump from the final debate:

"Now, you can come back in and you can become a citizen. But it's very unfair. We have millions of people that did it the right way. They're on line. They're waiting. We're going to speed up the process, big league, because it's very inefficient. But they're on line and they're waiting to become citizens."

If this is real? This should be a good news for us. I've read that Obama's plan for illegal immigrants delayed many immigration petitions (I haven't confirmation this). Should those go out of the way of those who "did it the right way", the process should be definitely faster. I just hope that getting those out of the way doesn't mean in inhumane way but with different processing methods/lines.

Many posters have stated that President Trump cannot do X, Y, Z because Congress has to do it.

This is false.

President Obama raised the use of Executive Orders to an unprecedented level.

President Trump will rescind many of those Executive Orders . . . and issue new ones to his liking.

President Trump can do almost anything he wants regarding immigration, by Executive Order.

There doesn't have to be months of hearings, etc., by Congress.

One signature and it's effective immediately.

You can blame President Obama for this, because he set the tone for ignoring Congress.

Fact check. It definitely wasn't unprecedented. Obama's current total is 235, or about 31 per year, which means his presidency had the lowest number of executive orders, per year, since Grover Cleveland.

I agree with a lot of people saying that we need to wait and see what happens. In the meantime, if you're already in process... keep at it and I wish you the best of luck. I hope everyone finishes their processes before ANY change takes effect.

However, someone mentioned that no specific countries were named during campaigning. That's not exactly true, Trump consistently brought up the 23 countries that are on the recalcitrant list. The first priority appears to be deoporting a large portion of illegal immigrants who are criminals. This is where the recalcitrant list comes into play. Congress and the president may decide to put a halt on visas issued in countries that are recalcitrant, meaning they refuse to cooperate and do not take their illegal immigrant criminals back.

So while the sentiment to not panic is a good one, please do not tell people they have no reason to be afraid. There will most likely be several countries effected by this, but it most likely will not be anecessary issue within the next year. As people have stated, change in the laws takes time.

I think people should stick to that and if they want to debate Trump supporters or detractors they should go somewhere else. God knows there's plenty of space to do that right now. So true! Some of us who don't live in the US and are not familiar with their government, are really worried! Including me! I thought this forum was about constructive discussion about Immigration and what are our choices and where do we go from here now that Trump is President. Lately, I do not see that happening. Also, people who have absolutely nothing to worry about, please don't tell others that we are spreading hysteria. Our anxiety is real and its for valid reasons.
