Honestly, all these different immigration reforms are giving me serious anxiety! If Trump decides to cut the number of GC's to be issued by 51%, what will happen to those who are already in the line?! My husband is a LPR and I'm 2 months away from my PD becoming current! What should I think?! :clock:

I would assume, IF Donald Trump decides to do that it would only be for future applicants, not people who are in the middle of the process.

Just my two cents but I imagine if he enforced it upon existing applications also it'd give the Government too much of a headache for them to want to deal with it

I'm a little worried too now that Trump has won the election. My case is now completed at the NVC, and I should get an interview soon. I'm worried about him not liking foreigners.

is he really going to build a wall between US and Mexico?? it has to be a joke, right??

I just filed an I-130 for my husband, and I'm terrified that he will get cold feet about moving to the US, even if the visa process is successful. He was ambivalent at best about the prospect of moving, even before this happened, and I feel like a terrible person for asking him to do this for me.

I'm still anxious to get back there, though I had hoped that it would be under better circumstances. After 12 years of living abroad and still not feeling at home, I'm throwing in the towel. Living in a foreign country is stressful enough for me even when we don't have a president everyone hates. I'm working at home for a couple of days because I can't bear the thought of seeing my colleagues right now.

Claire,

Consider a change of direction and a move to the UK, Australia or Canada - The Netherlands is not easy if you do not speak the local language.

I stayed on for an extra 2 weeks after a family visit with my wife tto the USA, dug around in Mass, went to a "impromptu street car" meet next to my hotel where all the owners were from Puerto Rico and I was the only European .... were far more friendly to me than the local Swiss! These experiences help and it confirmed I am interested to move.

We also are working on "reverse culture shock" which may affect you. We are doing what others have done and friends suggested we do, choose a state where no family are based so it is new for us ( plus mum-in law cannot pop round for a 7am cup of coffee!) A number of couples we know suggested this and they enjoyed making a new base for themselves together.

One idea is to keep the links alive for your husband when you move, soccer, Netherland USA chamber of commerce or meetup groups for Dutch speakers, it will all help him have a non-you network to build on.

Not easy, best of luck.

I was crying when I saw that Trump won the election. I'm a legal immigrant (green card holder) and he scares me. I'm a white woman from a EU country and my US citizen husband is African American. We aren't muslim or same-sex.

I came to the US on K1 visa in Dec 2014, got my 2-year green card in Sept 2015. I will have to file for ROC between June and September 2017 and I will be eligible for citizenship in June 2018. I can't wait! I wish I was already a citizen. I know that he only talks about illegal immigrants and work visas for now but God knows what will happen in the future. I am scared. :(

It sounds like family based visas will be OK - from everything I've read, it sounds like he wants to prevent the abuse of work based visas more than anything.

After what I've read, I'd be surprised if he made significant changes to marriage visas or family based green cards

It's true that family based should be fine, because his wife, now the first lady, is also an immigrant to a family based visa.

I agree. I'm not a Melania fan, but I think having an immigrant First Lady is kind of a good thing. I like that she's fluent in multiple languages, if anything, that alone is good for diplomacy.

Thanks for the advice, hateadminforms. The language actually is one of the major causes of stress here. I can speak Dutch well enough but I still don't feel like a fully functional human being when I'm speaking it. Luckily my husband's English is extremely good, and he's not nearly as self-conscious as I am.

We'd thought we might try to live not too far from my parents, especially since we have young children, but there's something to be said for making a new base for ourselves.

Much of Trump's plans are vague and mostly geared at illegal immigration, however, there is one thing to be somewhat concerned about. The following is a direct quote form plan put for his first 100-days in office --

* SECOND, a hiring freeze on all federal employees to reduce federal workforce through attrition (exempting military, public safety, and public health);

Unclear if USCIS or NVC fall under the "public safety" exemption, but this could mean fewer employees at the service centers and visa processing facilities. This in turn could mean much longer waits/delays.
