Looks like a Trump victory

I didn't see the speech, but my sister said the same thing. It was very kind, talked well of hilary, and spoke of working together and what not, not an aggressive tone at all. My dad thinks maybe he was humbled a bit, didn't actually expect to win.

He was humbled and will more than likely continue to be for a while. He will not be able to get anything done with congress if he isn't. Two thirds of his own party deserted him during his candidacy, he's got a lot of bridges to mend.

hey, the racist vote exists - they came out in hordes to vote for their guy - and now he'll be president for four years. i'm not making that up out of some butt hurt bitterness. i have way too much experience with the mindset of a trump supporter though, virginia went blue but that only happens because of NOVA. rural virginia was super enthusiastic about trump. i've been driving past a confederate flag and trump sign on rte 50 every morning for months. i remember, very well, learning just how racist virginia is -in the past 2 elections and obama. the point is, it doesn't actually matter if trump is a racist or not. he is willing to play to that don't tread on me/nationalists lives matter crowd (mind you white men have killed 4 cops over the past week ALONE.. but another topic), he's got to live with their support.

Give me a break. You call Trump a racist without a single shred of evidence to back it up. Just a bunch of hersay nonsense. Hillary received funding from countries who stone women to death for being accused of cheating on their husbands and throw gays off cliffs. Does that make her anti woman or anti gay?

Sounds like some bitter Hillary supporters to me. It's funny that the people who call Trump racist can't give a single valid example of how he is in fact racist. I'm sorry your candidate stabbed you in the back and couldn't conceed with dignity and give a speech thanking her supporters. I actually have some respect for you believe it or not for having such strong views and standing by them no matter how wrong and delusional they are. I now have zero respect for Hillary however for being a sore loser and throwing her supporters under the bus.

Thank you for your show of respect, it is deeply appreciated and means a lot to me coming from a long time and well revered member of this forum as yourself. Your contributions to this forum over the years have not gone unnoticed.

Actually we can. Personally I don't feel like rehashing the last 15 months with a guy who showed up yesterday just to gloat. I don't think it really matters. Trump won. The misogynistic, racist vote help get him there. He played to that crowd. What matters more is where he goes from here.

Trump will have to do an about face on many of his campaign promises. Chances are the knife will turn.

Here we are, the election is over. Some are happy with the results, some are not. Would be the same if it went the other way; only the faces would have changed. I had my two gloating posts over the election, both directed towards Teddy because of his "meltdown" predictions, and because I know he can take it.

But today, we are still we. A few new posters in the past few hours, hopefully some of them will stick around and add their perspective to the forum. CEHST folks disagree on things, sometimes heatedly. Sometimes I get frustrated with the way people post, but I am sure many here feel the same way about how I express myself. Be that as it may, we are a sort of dysfunctional family. We have our issues. We have our fights. We laugh sometimes. But the election changes nothing in any of us. We are who we are. I believe in my heart that EVERYONE who takes part in the discussions here want things to be better, even if we can't all agree on what "better" actually is.

I have learned a fair bit from my time here. Have had my eyes opened to things I hadn't considered before. Changed my views on a few things. Sometimes I just SMH. Sometimes I agree. Sometimes I push back. But I wouldn't be who I am today without the influence of the people here. I have changed some because of all on here.

Everyone keep your heads up. Someone had to win, and someone had to lose. Here's hoping that in the end, we the little people are not the real losers.

of course not. i don't think i said all trump supporters are racist. i said the racist vote exists, there's no denying that or the fact that the racist vote came out in droves in support of trump. because he courted that vote, purposefully.

Depends. To answer that question, you'd have to tell us if you are a racist or not? What do you fundamentally believe about people who are different from you no matter their race, religion, class, or political stance?

You not being racist does not mean that he didn't have the intense backing of racists, fascists, and neo-nationalists who overwhelmingly voted for him. And personally I think the republicans who survived the election in place right now also recognize that fact. They're going to have to figure out what to do with that little trend and if they want to defeat it or keep riding the wave of the devil.

I find it hard to believe that. Looking at by friend base, and knowing the many that voted for Trump, and the few that voted for Hillary... Not one of them fits your description. Americans spoke. Trump won. Just because Hillary did not win does not mean that the majority of voters are racist or fascist. Pretty narrow view to take, IMHO.

It takes a little bit of extrapolation to reach that conclusion. Not saying the conclusion is right or wrong. You're right it isn't a direct corrolation. There isn't an exit poll asking people "Are you racist?".

I think most people's reasoning is that if you look at the exit polls the population that Trump won was essentially White male voters. Combine that with a lot of his campaign "promises" regarding immigration, muslims etc... and people interpret that to mean that those white male voters who voted for him like the promises he was making, and therefore they are racist.

Whether or not that is true I can't say. But I believe that is the common reasoning.

sigh. just because you don't have a personal anecdote to add to the mix - doesn't mean that the racist white vote doesn't exist or didn't vote for trump. you can't deny either of those things anymore than you can deny david duke was alive and tweeting up a storm this morning.

homework assignment: read the works of the late great joe bageant. start with 'deer hunting with jesus' and then 'rainbow pie'. missed joe so much this election, he understood. he would have seen this 'upset' coming from..well, belize.
