if you believe it's enough, it's enough, if somebody is adding the bank statements, it won't hurt, specially if you circle in red you direct deposit income, you are providing the financial support and bank statements with savings and direct deposits help.

This is what the Employer verification letter and 6 months of pay-stubs is for.

We didn't submit bank statements for our K-1 visa. Jakarta Embassy is very lenient. The IO didn't even bother to take a look our tax return for i-134 during interview.

Bank statements show many things

huge cash deposits over your pay say as indicated illegal money coming in

huge cash withdrawals can indicate drug use or gambling problems

also looking for savings as you know there are many other fees to be paid (AOS and visa fee all further down the road)

also the need to provide health care insurance for the immigrant among other expenses

really the income itself does not tell immigration how well the sponsor handles money

and these bank statements are only important if there seems to be an issue bought up

otherwise they are required and not always read as proof by the 25 pound RFE we sent in and no one read a page of it as our case went to NVC 2 days after USCIS recieved it

no one had time to read all this

I always thought they were used as a possible gauge to determine how well your income is actually supporting you.

For example you could be getting paid $60,000 a year but if you have a lot of large bills and expenditures based on cost of living in your area, lifestyle, etc, then that $60,000 can be "worth" less than a $30,000 paycheck of someone who lives well within their means in a low-cost area.

I do agree it's not super important, and even not necessary at all, for many embassies, but if you are really on the borderline of the income requirement I don't think it's foolish to try and cover your bases with other ways - provided your bank statements provide a good picture that is...

Who said it was required to submit your bank statement? That is not a requirement and not necessary, it is only additional info which you may or may not provide, its your choice. I did not submit my bank statements because imo my purchases and spending is none of their business. I submitted only my letter of employment with our I-129F application. Then for the embassy interview I had my fiance print and bring my past 3 years W2 and 1040EZ tax statements, last paystub of the year for the past 3 years, and last 3 months paystubs prior to the embassy interview. This was acceptable and we were not questioned on it, her visa was approved and she arrived in the US exactly 4 weeks ago.

In reference to my law school days - People usually do not question what is written and therefore assume that if its on the list then its required. After much research Ive determined that the statements are in fact optional and only used as proof of assets if your salary is not enough to push you adequately over the poverty line threshold.

Each embassy is different as to what they specifically want to see.

It is suggested to supply all the materials listed in the guides; but as stated if you're income say is 100k a year, and you have pay stubs and W2's and such proving that, then a bank account statement shouldn't be needed; but again depends on the embassy.

My partner just did his interview, i supplied him with all documents(except the bank statements as I make more than enough). He never even was asked for any financial documents and never turned any in to the embassy. He was approved without even having to show financial support information.

It just depends again; but always better to be prepared incase.

They didn't even look at my bank statements when my wife had her interview in Jakarta last year.

Yes the consensus is that statements are optional unless used to prove assets.

We did not require any bank statements for our i 134, however we did get a bank letter which just indicated that he has an account, what date it was open, and the amount which had been deposited over the last year.

I didn't provide my now-wife any bank statements, just pay stubs and tax return transcripts. No problems.

Hello,

I hope I'm not hijacking, but I'm looking over the affidavit of support form (I-134), I exceed the income requirement, thus, I don't plan on providing my fiance with any bank statements. One of the questions on the form states "I have on deposit in saving banks in the US", I have a checking account, do I still need to put how much is in my checking account for this question, even though I don't plan on providing bank statements? Or am I misinterpreting the question?

That would be quite something to show up on a bank statement.

But you're definately right still on random large sums or money being deposited or a one time large sum being deposited right before the interview in an attempt to briefly "beef up" the savings for show.

Define Large Sum?
