Hello everyone,

I awaiting for my conditional green card (married to a US citizen), and just got my work permit. I have been reading a lot of articles online but could not find answers to some of my questions, so thank you in advance for your help!

I would like to take a job in Scotland form 2018 to 2020, my husband would come with me. We would then come back to the U.S. to live there permanently. However, I know I will be on an conditional green card probably until the beginning of 2019 (half way through my contract).

I'm planning to apply (from Scotland) for removing the condition, 90 days before the conditional GC expires and I know I will probably have to go do my biometrics in the US during those 90 days.

My question is: Would I need a re-entry permit to do my biometrics? If my conditional GC is still valid and I have been outside of the U.S. for:

1) less than a year ?

2) more than a year ?

Then, if I obtain my GC, would the USCIS send it to my current address in Scotland or do I have to come back to the US to get it? or will the GC be sent to U.S. address (in this case my husband's parents)?

Finally, after I have my GC in hands, would I need a re-entry permit if I'm outside of the U.S. for less than a year or more than a year (until the end of my contract)?

Thank you for your help!

Before you leave in 2018, it would be prudent to get a re-entry permit as you will be planning on living abroad for 2 years. Short visits to the US during those two years don't make the re-entry permit unnecessary.

Okay, thank you! Then I will apply for a re-entry permit but I know that because I will be on a conditional GC that the re-entry permit expires at the same date as the conditional GC.

So I'worried for the remaining for the time I'm abroad once I get my GC. I won't be able to apply for a re-entry permit while abroad... Not sure what to do then. Should I just re-enter the country later with my GC only when my contract is over (hopefully no more than a year later)?
