Hi Guys,

I am trying to prepare my N-400 packet and I have couple of questions:

1. Do i need to send passport photos? I am confused because instructions states that photos are required for people who lives outside the USA. On the other hand if you read the "Document Checklist" it says that i need to send two photos.

2. Regardin Part Line 44A- "Are you a male who lived in the United States at any time between your 18th and 26th birthdays? (This does not include living in the United States as a lawful nonimmigrant.)

" I came to USA ehen i was 22 as a F1 Visa and i became a permanent resident at 31. Should i check it as "NO"?

Thank You for your hell.

2 passport Photos is must as one of them will be on your citizinship certificate.

regarding the other question i would put yes, they are not specifying if you were an lawfull nonimigrant or not. that question is about the selective service. did you signed up for it ?? if you havent you need to sign up.

You are mistaken. Passport-style photographs are no longer always required to be submitted with an N-400 per the latest N-400 guidelines, dated 9/29/16, which state:

"Only applicants who reside overseas must provide two identical color photographs of yourself taken recently."

(Page 10)

The photograph that appears on the naturalisation certificate will be taken at the biometrics appointment.

OP, did you maintain your F-1 status until you were at least 26?

Thank You for replying back. I was with F1 until 27.

I am thinking for just in case to send 2 pictures and hopefully they will choose the one from Biometrics appointment - the reason is that i am growing a mustage for "Movember" (cancer awerness) and this is not something that i have all the time :)

If you maintained your F-1 status from the entire time you entered until you turned (at least) 26 then you should answer No to the Selective Service question.

You can certainly include two passport photos if you like, they won't return your application because of it, but they won't be used for anything.

Hey you! I don't know if you remember, but we had the same AOS Interview date. Did you apply for citizenship yet. My interview was yesterday and it was easy. I applied in December 2016.

Someone in a progress group actually just said today that now they use the biometrics picture for your certificate, instead of taking photos later during the interview (this was someone reporting back from their interview).  So if you don't meet the condition to send them with your application (ie, living overseas) then I wouldn't worry.

I disagree. I submitted my packet in December 2016 (with no photos) and had my interview 10 days ago. The officer asked for 2 passport sized photos saying that the biometrics pictures were rubbish and not suitable for use. She said the information saying do not submit photos with the application was creating some confusion. My office is Tucson I have read this occurring in other offices as well.

I would either submit the photos with your initial application or take 2 photos to the interview in case.

YIKES! That adds some considerable confusion to the process. I've said it before: it can't hurt to have the photos with you because if you do not need them, then you can always use them for your passport!

As someone who had some awful biometric pictures taken, I am totally bringing some passport photos with me to my interview!
