Final steps for POE?

We have completed everything. The help on this forum has definitely made a big difference in our preparedness and we luckily haven't had a single hiccup along the way mainly due to the information we gathered from places like this.

Final(ish) question - she's done with the medical exam, we paid some greencard fee I think, etc. I am flying over there and we are coming back together in December.

What are the final steps that need to be done so that she can be eligible to work once she gets here? I assume the greencard won't be mailed to the address on file until she actually gets into America? Or am I mistaken in this thinking and should contact the NVC now to see what's going on with it? Also, I faintly remember some discussion about a social security card on some part of the application. How does she go about getting this and a drivers license?

0. What are you supposed to bring to the POE?

1. Call NVC about the greencard

2. Find out about the social security card

3. How does getting a license/adding her to my bank accounts etc work?

4. Is there some other file we need to form since we've been married less than 2 years?

Thanks!

embassy will give husband a packet to hand in at POE / do not open this yourself at all

did you mark the box on visa application fee for USCIS to apply for his SS card? if you did, it takes 2 weeks to a month to come and you do not have to do a thing

bank accounts / just take marriage license and proof he lives now with you / put his name on a utlitity help prove this

check your state for driving license information

normal is to pass written tests, eye test, and vehicle driving test

NVC has nothing to do with a green card

Upon arrival with IV package at the POE, the CBP will stamp her visa in her passport. This will endorse the visa turning it into a temporary green card valid for 1 year. She can use this for anything she needs a green card for until the hard copy arrives. She will recieve the hard copy 2-6 months after POE or payment, whichever was later.

If the SSN doesnt come within 2-3 weeks, visit the SSA office to get the SSN.

Check with your DMV and bank on items needed to add your wife.

File the I-751 upt to 90 days before the 2 year card expires (before her 2 year anniversary of being an lpr.)
