Sorry to hear about your profession not being very good to you. I know the airlines have been cutting and laying off many Aircraft Technicians, especially since 9/11. They used that for an excuse, but in reality they mis-managed the airlines into bankruptcy. The technicians were the first to go. I am very lucky as I work for a company that has not layed off any techs ever. The company has been good to me. I hope everything gets worked out for you. PM me if you are interested in a job, maybe I can help, I don't know, but I would give it try. We are still hiring all the time.

That could have been me and my unit. How long ago was it? We went into Kenya about 10 years ago now I guess. We did take our job serious. Had too! The reason they were serious and didn't talk much is because most of what I did was classified and still can't talk about it. Not that it's James Bond stuff but for National Security. I could never figure out what that meant. You guys always did have the nice equipment to fly around in. I should have joined the Air Force instead of the Marines! :-) Good luck on your Visa Journey!

I believe it was in '97 or '98. Sorry I can't be mmore specific. It has been almost 10 years. After we flew the marines in, we flew to Ethiopia and stayed overnight. Believe it or not, as one of the most poverished nations, we stayed in five star hotel in Ethiopia. Actually it was one of the best hotels I ever stayed in. I really enjoyed that mission. When we landed in Kenya, the local schools took the children to the airport to see us. There must have been 300+ children there. We gave a few tours of the airplane and the children loved it. I was happy that we could do that for them. They seemed like they have never seen an airplane before and they were elated and so excited to see inside the flight deck. I will never will forget that day. It was a great and rewarding one! Flying for Uncle Sam was hard a lot of the time, but times like this made up for the 30 hour days and and the "bag drags" up three flights of stairs!
